After 99 hands there is a pause on IGTs--it's called the "data dump". Information is stored in the machine's memory.
Be aware that machines have two types of memory--volatile and non-volatile.
Volatile memory is the type where stored data is lost when the power is turned off--non-volatile memory is the type where stored data is not lost when power is turned off.
The memory is a good thing for players in case of a machine malfunction and in case of power outages.
Even though the device has a message stating that "malfunctions void all pays" most casinos will give you the benefit of the doubt when there is a stuck button --however, they must check the memory to verify the hand.
The non-volatile memory helps when there is a power outage.
Most people will remember when the Bellagio lost power--Easter Sunday, 2004--because a back-up system was using the same duct as the primary system. This was an annoying situation for video poker and slot players--however, the non-volatile memory enabled the casino to work out a fair arrangement.
