Palms

You aren't really "blacklisted" because you play FP DW (or 10/7 DB) at the
Palms. The fact is, if you play only the machines they label as 100% or those
with NSU which they call 100% (but aren't - and you can actually be playing
DDB only on them - it doesn't matter - if you play the machines with NSU on
them they put you in the same boat even if you are playing DDB!) -- the Palms
generally counts that all as though you are playing 100% machines which means
your play doesn't count as far as any offers are concerned. You won't get
mailers for free play or even those postcards for swipes or other stuff.

Last month I couldn't get a free $1 pair of flip flops, because I'd played
DDB or NSU the previous month. Even though most of my play was DDB and I'd
lost several thousand dollars!

My husband with tiny play, which did include a little on Deal or No Deal,
could get the flipflops!

Then last month I played over $20,000 on reels (mostly $5) to get a special
freeplay promotion, and my husband played about $20,000 on DDB and NSU 5-play
-- so this month we both got the same minimal cash mailers for $10 free play
each time. This makes no sense either.

Other than that special freeplay promo (which was for something like $3 free
play for every 100 points played on reels), it obviously wasn't worth
playing at the Palms for either of us. $10,000 through via reels or VP would have
gotten us a lot more in cash, freeplay, and food by playing at the Gold Coast
across the street (especially on 2X days).

The gifts from the swipes and postcards from the Palms are cheapo! Actually
the free Megabucks pulls seem more worthwhile - we probably pocket at least
$12 every other time we do that.

The only reason we keep playing at the Palms at all, is that it is very
convenient for us - the nearest casino, and a good changeover point for us if
heading to the Gold Coast/Orleans or using the Palms shuttle to the Wynn.

We did use those 3X coupons when we did our big $20,000 play last month, so
maybe it did make it marginally worthwhile overall.

That part about NSU isn't true at the current time (it may change).
Other than when there was the recent 10/6 DDB machine mistake, I play
only NSU and get $400 a month. The machines are good for the point
multipliers on the coupon book that was mailed (except for the ones that
are specific to slot machines). And I certainly get strong invitations.

REPLY: I occasionally play the FPDW at the Palms just for the positive
game and the food comps. Besides the buffet and other Palms
rstaurants, the comps can be used at the food court (McDonald's, Panda
Express, and a pizza place). I think that you also can get comped
movie tickets.

For small-$ tourists, FPDW + some free food is a nice deal. The Palms
does NOT send me any room or other offers. I wish that they did, but
I'm happy with what I get. I just wish more casinos were willing to
offer similar small loss-leader packages. I try to return the favor by
always giving the Palms a "must visit" rating when friends inquire
about what they should do when in Vegas.

I'm most likely to play a bit at the Palms when I'm staying and playing
at the Gold Coast. Coast Casinos forces you to choose between comps or
cashback. Thus, I usually take cash at the GC and eat at the Palms.
But I make an exception for the GC breakfast buffet, which (because of
all the excellent fruit offerings) I consider well worth its $5+ cost
for Club Coast members.

RELATED NOTE: I rate the Palms buffet as mediocre -- well below the
Gold Coast's. Gardunos (spelling??) is the only other Palms cookery
that I've sampled, and it was "just OK." I assume that the higher-end
Palms restaurants are much better. True? Or are their 20- and 30-
something customers clueless about food?

Alize and N9ne are top notch places. N9ne could contend for one of the
best steakhouses in the entire valley. Obviously not cheap, but if hit
a Royal at the Palms, treat yourself at least once.
