Today I spoke with Natalie, who manages the Palms Store. I have been pushing
for gift cards instead of gift certificates for a long time, and she finally
came through!
You can use your points for the gift cards in any amount from $25 to $500
per card. The cards can be used wherever the Discover Card is accepted.
Unfortunately, this excludes all the food outlets in the Food Court. I don't know if
they are accepted at the Brendan Theaters, will ask tomorrow and report
back. All other Palms retailers, including the N9NE Group outlets, will accept
the cards, with the exception of Alize. I am told that they are considering
adding the Discover Card to the cards they accept. The spa/salon will also
accept these gift cards.
For those of us with lots of Palms comp points, this is no big deal, at
least as far as our own personal use is concerned. However, if you wish to treat
friends/relatives to freebies at Palms outlets, these cards will be very
convenient. You will no longer have to be present to get a comp or swipe your
card personally--just give them a gift card and they're all set! Plus, there is
the obvious advantage, as Jean says, of not having to use the entire
amount--any balance just stays on the gift card for future use.
Natalie says that the cards will not diminish in value for at least one year
from purchase date. No problem there!
Since this is a brand new system, it may be subject to change. This is the
best info I have at the moment.

However, I do have one BIG piece of comp news - at least more convenient.
You can now get gift CARDS at the gift shop instead of the gift
certificates. So much more convenient. They just switched over and I'm not
sure of all the details yet - but on the one card we got it says you can
fill a card for, I think, a max of $500 or $600. This way you don't waste
any value, i.e., not using the whole amount of a gift certificate.
I'm not sure of all the places you can use this card - probably same as you
could use certificates plus salon and spa (they used to have separate
certificates) but it doesn't have a list on the card. Maybe not Alize,
Nine, Ghost Bar, Rain - any place that Nine Group owns - but you can buy
gift cards for those at the Skin Shop near Nine.
This new gift card has a Discover logo on it - and after so many months on
back of card it says they start taking off a fee - not sure if that means
they would start taking off point value. Someone needs to clarify that -
and find out where all it can be used.
