Monthly mailings and VIP status at the Palms appears to be a "Don't ask, Don't tell" situation and probably are
influenced by coin-in, daily average theoretical loss, machines played, and actual win or loss.
The top 300 players, over the three month period that ends one month before the start of each calendar quarter,
earn "Super Hot Shot" status for the next calendar quarter, and the next 700 are "Hot Shots".
One nice perk for Hot Shots is immediate seating in the buffet.
April 2003 mailing was based on play between 4 DEC 2002 and 4 MAR 2003
They also factor in whether you pull your card, either to prevent them seeing a big win or to get play cash in an attempt to avoid a 0 day. This, by itself, can get your mailers significantly reduced or eliminated. The interesting part is that they aren't very good at identifying people who do this!
