I'm an out-of-towner and used to get mail pretty frequently from the
Palms. It has since slowed (it's been over two years since i've been
there), but still get offers like 3 free nights per 3-month period
+$100 in free play, tournament offers over holiday weekends (could have
stayed memorial weekend + $250 in free play!). So the offers do come.
Now, I should mention that the play on my card was about 75% vp and 25%
slots (two playing on one card). Combined loss on a two night trip was
$1200, so that might have something to do with it. I played lots of
full pay VP, but maybe 10% short pay. My friend played slots using my
card (I think that was a big help!).

I think you're right. Palms has always managed make itself relatively
famous and trendy, and has never had any trouble filling up its rooms.
That being the case, they have little incentive to hand out free rooms.
