Palms mailers/promotions

I don't believe the Palms free play promotional mailers (for locals only)
vary with month. The "secret ingredient" seems to be your daily average.
Apparently if you play only 100% full pay machines such as deuces wild and 10/7
DB, you probably will get NO mailer. If you play a combination of these and
other machines, you probably will get a mailer, but your amount could be
downgraded.

The Palms new "month" starts sometime in the middle of the month. So if you
play on say July 2 and 10th, and then don't play again until Aug. 17th, you
might have zero play for their "month" of August. Mailers seemed to be based
on a 3 month total. But if you had a zero "August" month out of 3 months,
you might get a smaller mailing. Then if you played on Aug. 17 and Sept. 2
and Sept. 5, you could have a heavy "Sept." month, and the next month you're
mailing might increase.

It is hard to say if playing free play only and pulling your card after
getting play counts as a "zero" play day average or not. I've heard it both ways.
Definitely if you play your free play and only play the free play that day
with card in, you will have a low day for that day, and this averaged in with
your higher playing days could result in a lower figure.

Also apparently mailers are given out to X number of people at each level.
If this is the case and you play amount Y in June and you are in the top 100
people, you could get the best mailing. In July you play the same Y amount,
but more people play heavily and you are now # 125. You are no longer in the
top 100 people, so you get a worse mailer.

I can't say for sure that the above is the case, but one of the comments I
heard from the slot management people seemed to indicate this could be the
case.

Apparently a large amount of play on 1 day could help you get a better
mailing, even if you have other low days or free play only days. I'd say you need
about $20,000 through on one day to get one of the top couple of mailings
($50 per free play). $10,000 through seems to garner more like $20 free play
mailings. However, these numbers assume you are not playing the FP games.

According to the person I spoke with at the booth, mailings may vary
depending on factors such as winning versus losing, type of machine, amount of money
put through, hours played, and whether you played on a day where you had
free play.

I don't think taking in a postcard or eating counts as a "play day" (but I
could be wrong).

The top mailing seems to be $50 free play (though you might have more or
less of times to pick that up). This means even if you were to play $100,000
through on one day, you could end up with the same mailer as someone who put
through $20,000.

Now obviously from the above it becomes clear that it is pretty much
unfathomable for us to try to figure out how we are getting the mailings we are!

You can always try asking at the booth if you get no mailer or an odd
mailer. But they probably will be unable to tell you much.

The only advice I can give is that if you play at the Palms, do so heavily
on at least 1 day per month, and keep that day in the same part of each month.
For example playing $20,000 through machines on 1 day is better than
playing the same $20,000 through on the 30 days of the month.

Playing "reel" slots, even just for a couple of minutes, could possibly
improve mailings. But then again, maybe it doesn't. Playing FP machines, even
for a few minutes, could possibly hurt mailings. (Again assuming that the
majority of your play is on VP but not FP games - more like 9/6 JB or NSU or
DDB). But then again, maybe it doesn't.

People playing $1 triple play NSU or 9/6 JB might do better off by playing
similar machines at a strip hotel, assuming they can play $15,000-30,000 on one
day, and assuming they concentrate this play in a 1 day fashion.
Or again, maybe not.........

Have I confused you yet any more than you were already confused.......

Best, Linda

Linda has really analyzed the problem!!!!! And she is right - who knows exactly.

However, several months ago, when I talked to the head of marketing (which I feel is more reliable than someone at the slot club booth), she stated they had changed the cut-off date from the middle of the month to the 3rd. Does anyone have reliable information that this is not currently true? Plus she told me that win/loss definitely did NOT matter, but it did matter if you did a promotion (i.e., picking up a postcard offer) and did not play that day. She said that the latter situation was the primary way they judged the success/failure of a promotion and they took that into consideration in planning future ones.

Those were 2 specific things I was told in a very candid talk with her. Most of the rest I have posted in the last couple of weeks is based on past experience, both our own and from the private reports we get from others.

Oh, she did tell me they "tinker" with their marketing program all the time - so that is the reason we can't ever be sure!!!!!!
