Palms contest: bug or feature?

I've been fairly amazed with the cross-the-casino lines at the Palms for the
scratch-and-win promotion these past few days. I'd imagine that a lot of
their players are mighty pissed off waiting in line for 30 minutes only to
receive the dreaded "mystery gift."

Do you think that it was just a massive logistical miscalculation in terms
of the resources they'd need to successfully execute the promotion and meet
the demand, or do you think they intentionally deployed an inconvenient
promotion to reduce their costs or perhaps weed out low-rollers who are only
coming in to scratch and leave?

After all, a $270,000 giveaway only costs $135k if people are turned off
enough to stay home half the time.

you are so right , the lines have been long. but dont tell the others in line but
you can go the the players club where there usually isnt a line and have them scratch it off without the wait. most of my scratch offs so far have not been huge
but i have received free slot play 2x in the 1st four days.
dont know my fate tonight as i havent gone there yet, but at least i will have free slot play as i received an email of free slot play today.

  good luck,
  james

What difference does it really make?? Half the people on that line
have nothing better to do with their time anyway. I see people with
canes, in wheelchairs, and with oxygen tanks as well. If you are
that sick, shouldn't you really be home ?? Never to sick for a
freebie at a casino !!! The savy people go to the players club and
do it there.....

If my memory serves, I believe that casinos refer to this as breakage.
Seems counter productive to what the marketing departments goals are for
running promotions, doesn't it. Also seems to me that a lot of properties
with decreasing head counts are far too much in love with breakage. Gaming
logic must be quite different than the regular kind.

Would you mind telling us which High School (or University) produced
a person capable of exhibiting the kind and humanitarian view of
older and infirm citizens that you exhibit? I'd really like to know
so that others might be forewarned to select other educational
institutions.

BTW, these "sick" people are not required to stay at home because
they offend your delicate sensibilities!

Aren't you fortunate to be one of the "savy" (sic) people who has
been wise enough to manage (so far) to avoid needing a cane or
wheelchair. If a mishap, requiring the use of this type of aid,
should befall you, I presume that you will remain housebound
so as not to bother or impede the progress of other healthier
individuals.

In the northeast, thank you and I was injured earlier this year
myself, and had enough to do and family and friends around that I
wasn't stuffed in a chair and pushed to a casino, because no one
else knew where to take me and what to do with me. I have helped
enough of them around the u.s., and yes a lot have told me that they
have nothing else to do, so that is the only reason they are there.
When one of the tanks explodes one day from being near something
that is combustible, we will let you know, and you can deal with the
mess etc. since you probably have more casino time on your hands
then even you realize. I am sure you are one of the typical local
casino liveins.....

Thank you, Mr. Direct, for your gracious, literate and informed
response.

I can certainly understand why the infirmed people whom you have
"helped", in casinos, confided in you. Being as sympathetic to
their plight, as you have indicated that you are, they would
certainly unburden themselves to you. How interesting that they
explained to you that they "had nothing else to do" other than wait
in line for "freebies" at various casinos.

For your further edification, I am far from "typical", not a "LV
local", nor a "casino live-in". My residence is in the Mid-west,
and I am the fulltime owner of an established business.
