When they sent out MVP, Hall of Fame, etc. cards last year, they came with a
notice that they would be good until March 2005. If you look on the
brochures or ask at the desk you'll learn that status depends on your play for 3
months. Presumably the new cards are based on your play for the last 3 months
(probably Dec., Jan., Feb.).
Also presumably you can upgrade to a higher level by playing more for 3
consecutive months, and your new card might be good until March 2006.
Since the cards give you discounts at the buffet (primary bonus for the
card), they are now checking the new dates. If you believe you still qualify for
the level you used to be and didn't get a new card, obviously you should
check at the slot club.
Note this isn't to say that the Palms isn't going downhill for both VP and
slot players. They have lowered what they are giving out in mailings (even if
you play reel slots), they've reduced the number of good VP machines, they
aren't giving you anything for playing 100% machines except 1X points.
Since I've been playing a lot of NSU and sometimes reel slots, I find that
at my level of play I'm better off playing at other venues such as Bally's and
Las Vegas Hilton.
I've met "ordinary" people (non-VP-buffs) who say they have stopped playing
at the Palms because they are no longer getting mailers.
With the Palms chasing off VP players, low-level slot players, high-level
slot players, it seems their main pull will be visitors rather than locals, and
people "tourist" type visitors rather than repeat "gambler-types" looking for
good promotions such as slot tournaments and so on. Perhaps the Palms
makes a lot from their party-clientele who drink a lot and gamble for short
periods. Personally I think they would do better to attract locals/gamblers AND
party people to make the most money.
If they are alienating someone like me - who plays mostly non-100% VP and
sometimes reels and only lives a mile away - they have to be alienating a lot of
people.
