Palms and out-of-town versus locals

First, the Palms. For all players you are best off to maximize your play by
playing high during 1 day, rather than play several days whose combined
total might be higher than the 1 day. The Palms looks at a "daily average." If
you play $50,000 through on day one and $10,000 through on day 2, your daily
average becomes only $30,000 - so you are better off to just play on the
$50,000 day and forget the lower day play!

Secondly, regular mailings are only sent to Las Vegas locals. Out-of-town
players may get mailings too, but these are for free or discounted rooms, and
not for "free play" dates. Sometimes out-of-town players may be able to get
their rooms and meals comped during their stay, and their comp account points
will remain intact. Sometimes comps are tapped.

For locals, we get no free rooms. For most of us you can't get a comp
without using up your points. We do get free play days and a few other mailings,
depending on amount played in a month.

Depending on the casino it can be helpful to be a Vegas local or more
helpful to have an out of town address. If you have 2 addresses (for example you
own a condo in Vegas and a home elsewhere), you can give one address to one
place, and the other address to other casinos.

Some places where it is good to be a Vegas local: Palms, Stations,
Venetian. Out-of-town offers are better for Park Place, MGM/Mirage. For Coast -
locals get $25 cash offers plus food and shows, but out-of-town people can get
rooms plus full RFB, and sometimes even cash offers - so it is hard to say
which might be better.

I agree, it sometimes doesn't make sense that casinos send out 2 different
mailings to people depending on their location. Further sometimes you need to
book a hotel room to get into a slot tournament or receive a promotion such
as a shopping spree or cashbash -- the casino needlessly ties up a hotel room
that might remain unused.

Unfortunately that is the way that marketing works. All we can do is try to
understand what differences may be occuring, and maximize offers that we
find most useful, if possible.
