Just want to point out though that these machines are not from IGT or
other known manufacturers. I believe these newer machines that Pala
brought in to replace the old Super Aces machines (which many people
like to play before) are made by Aristrocrat or some unknown
manufacturer and from what I heard from people who have tried playing
these machines.....well....I have not heard anybody saying s/he won
on these machines. They even have 4-6 of these machines in the $1
level (around the center of the casino) and they are usually empty.

What difference does it make _who_ makes the machines, so long as they are truly random?

Bill,

Actually, I'm not sure what the difference is!? I've never played
these machines and I don't think I'll even try.

One of the advices I received from this forum before mentioned
that "If you are playing in Indian casinos, at least play those vp
machines that are from known manufacturers such as IGT, Ballys, etc.".

Does anyone remember American Coin Company, the company (late 80's,
early 90's) that programmed their VP machines not pay Royals. Don't
say it can't happen in Vegas with the Gaming commission watching.

It did happen, and not so long ago. Plus the programmer responsible
for the non pay Royals was murdered just before he could go to trial
and testify (perfect timing). This was on the History channel not
too long ago (Month of December). A whole hour program about
American Coin, the murder, and how Vegas newspapers tried to "Low
Key" the whole thing (it's bad for business).

No one really knows what % of machines are honest today in Vegas. It
has been reported on this forum that the number of inspectors is a
joke, to adequately inspect a fraction of the machines yearly. And
if the inspectors could not find the Programming fraud in American
Coin, what have they done, so they themselves, can decipher the code
used today? They have done nothing from what I can find out about
it. There's no guarantee, but I have to stick with the big players,
since they would have most to lose, and that is IGT and Bally!

However, since there is no way to really know, I'm going to be more
guarded with my money, and gamble with less. Until such a time the
gaming commission demonstrates 1) A desire (by hiring more
inspectors) and 2) Competence (demonstrate how they prove the
vendor's code is not fraudulent or in error). And that is never
going to happen (?), so gaming will remain a low cost, low risk
hobby.

Sorry, I don't mean to burst anyone's VP gambling bubble!

The few times I have visited, the old SA (7/5) w/ prog. were CDS mfg.
They still maintain these in a few scattered places - River Palms,
Castaways in LV, etc. CDS also made those 'reel deal' machines.
I don't think they are manufactured any more.

Pala is a joint-venture with Anchor Gaming.
Perhaps the new machines are designed by Anchor - primarily a slot
manufacturer?

Martin.

I've never being San Diego, but are these machines
called "Shockwave" made by ISD Games? I heard from friends Shockwave
is big in California.
