This is a very interesting debate, because in a way you are both
right. You are correct in that Blackjack (with basic strategy) and
Baccarat have a much lower house edge (as does pass/come with odds in
craps). Your friend is probably tuned into the fact that you may
lose less per hour playing Pai Gow Poker because of the velocity of
the games. Pai Gow Poker is a very slow game (which used to be many
times slower before the introduction of the automatic shuffler). It
is also a less volatile game than Basic Strategy BlackJack with
almost half of the hands being pushes and the remainder of the hands
being almost equally won by the player and dealer. It has been my
table game of choice for about 15 years.

Another point related to this is that it is generally a good game to build your table game rating. When you need a break from VP, buy in $300 and play $10 a hand. Generally, I've had sessions that were far from "good" and maybe lost a few bucks, won a few bucks or broke even for two or three hours. That can do wonders for the comp rating. At one time, the Stardust even had a policy of cutting the rating in half if you were playing Pai Gow. I understand they dropped that policy figuring for the few that might abuse it, it aggravated more real players.

I have played Pai Gow heavily for 13 yrs. You used to get good
ratings for comps but no more. $3 BJ gets better comps than $10 Pai
Gow (& should) due to game speed & related factors.

& banking a source of controversy on the exact#. Baccarat also

blackjack player and many variables that affect the return of the
card counter.... chief among these I suppose would be the spread one
can get away with without drawing heat. The descriminating BS player
can whittle that .5% edge down considerably.

"basic strategy", which of course is not as good as perfect strategy
coupled with card counting. It also states that the house edge against
