Over-Payers

I've read stories in the past (from Mickey) about "over-payers", old vp machines that paid out more coin than they were supposed to. Of course, Mickey never took advantage of those and stayed away from hustlers who did. Mickey is smart!

Anyway, I'm in Vegas now and yesterday I was playing an old coin dropper and hit quad Aces and got a handpay on $239. Then I cashed out the remaining 45 quarters and a message came across the screen and I think the machine locked up, it said something like "This machine has overpayed 46 quarters instead of 45". I have a photo of it but can't upload it yet off my cell phone until I get home, I'm not smart enough to figure out how to do it.

Anyway, I got a chuckle out of that. This may be my first "over-payer". But apparently they have put a fix in the system that will stop hustlers.

I looked around and didn't see any security guards, so I took my extra quarter and briskly walked to my car, covered my license plates and raced out of the parking lot. I made a clean getaway.

I was never that smart. I actually preferred what we called
"clickovers." These were machines that registered more coins than
were inserted. In 1985, I found one of these at the Sparks Nugget.
Every so often, it would register 2 coins for 1 that was inserted. I
estimate I saved $5000 on a $1 progressive that I ended up hitting for
$14,000. Something like what happened to the car at the end of "The
Blues Brothers," it finally went crazy. The screen did a "scrambled
eggs" and tried to spill all the coins in the hopper into the tray.
They caught that and I gallantly offered to give back what had spilled
into the tray, which I think they declined because I was such a good
customer.

"Gallantly", lol
