OT: ISP Question:

I'll be switching from cableweb to dial-up at the end of this week
(financial reasons). I'm comparing Netscape and PeoplePC's basic
service, each of which is ~$10/wk.

I'm wondering if anyone here has(or has ever had) either of those as
their ISP and can tell me what they're like; how good they are(n't).
And/or if anyone's ever had both of them(each at different times, of
course), can you please tell me which you think is better and why.

I'm also open to considering other dial-up ISPs. I'm looking for
something that's inexpensive _without_ being "cheap". Any help or
feedback that anyone here could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx!

Depnding on the features you want, check out Fry's ISP:

Three months free and $9.88 per month after that. It's no frills, but
you can't beat the price--there's no software, no ads. It's just an
old-fashioned ISP. It's the kind of service that a computer "geek"
would use since it's reliable, inexpensive, and without ads!

For dial-up I've had pretty good luck with netzero. I think it's
$9.95/month when paid annually. I use it on my laptop when traveling
and like it much better than when I had AOL. Connection is faster and
there are far fewer ads and screens to go through to get to the
website you want. There is quite a bit of space allowed for your mail
too.
At home I have cable and there is no comparison just for the speed.

Jeff:Have you thought about DSL? If you are paying 10.00 a week, that
is a high price for dial up. If it is 10.00 a month, that seems
reasonable for dial up. I have DSL from Verizon. They have a 14.99 a
month plan and a 29.99 plan both with a one year commitment. It was a
pain to set up. Verizon kept claiming I had service but I did not and
that went back and forth for a week. The speed for the 29.99 beats
dial up hands down. Comcast wanted 49.99 to walk in the door, another
100.00 for the modem but that you would have gooten back with a
rebate. And 19.99 for six months of service jumping up to 39.99 after
the trial period. Hope this helps your decision.
