OT: 6 to 5 Blackjack - Has the Novelty Worn Off?

Has 6 to 5 Blackjack continued beyond Las Vegas and beyond 1D games,
or has the novelty worn off? Have average players figured out how bad
the odds are?

6 to 5 blackjack has certainly spread beyond Las Vegas. I have heard
of some casinos that now "offer" 6 to 5 double deck. The average
blackjack player really has no idea how badly his expectation is hurt
by this rule. You might think that this game would generally be
relagated to the low limit tables in order to fleece the low rolling
tourists who don't know the difference, but I have seen at least one
casino (Beau Rivage) that only dealt 6 to 5 single deck at their $25
and up tables. And people would play it, even though there were good
double deck (S17, DAS) and good 6 deck games (S17, DAS, LS) right
there. Of course, we see parallels in VP where people will play 8/5
JOB while a 9/6 machine sits empty right next to them.

I took a trip with my Mom to LVH last fall and my Mom, a pretty heavy BJ player, decided to hit the 6/5 games in the Spacequest (which have since been removed). I tried to tell her the folly of her ways, she was simply reinforcing the decision of the casino to offers these games, etc. Her indignant response was "We'll, I don't usually hit that many blackjacks anyway"!

Of course she then proceded to take several hundred from then in a long session........

binion's and 4 Queens are advertizing 3 to 2 on the mall in front of
their shops. Haven't noticed if others are, but that's competition
foryou.
