Optimum Video Poker Free Update

To all users of Optimum Video Poker:

I just e-mailed the 1.0.8 update to all registered users for which I have a valid e-mail address. Unfortunately, a few of those came back as "undeliverable."

Upgrades for bug fixes and minor improvements are free. If you have a legal copy of OpVP and didn't receive this update, please let me know.

To receive free updates, I must have a current e-mail address where you can receive a large attachment (currently about 1.0 MB for the Windows version or 1.3 MB for the Macintosh version).

If you are a registered user but can't receive the update by e-mail, I will send a CD with the complete new version for only $5.00. Please send payment via PayPal to Dan@OptimumPlay.com, or send a check or money order payable to Dan Paymar, 1118 Fairgrounds Road, Farmington, NM 87401.

What is in Update 1.0.8:

1. Added a new window for additional considerations related to the bankroll required for one session or to go after a progressive royal. It allows accurately calculating the bankroll required for an acceptable risk of losing that bankroll before hitting at least one royal. Also allows calculating the probability of losing a given bankroll before hitting a royal.

2. Changed the Risk of Ruin window so that the Risk of Ruin and Bankroll values are not cleared when the Bet Size is changed.

3. New ReadMeFirst and UserInstructions documents.

"Chance favors the prepared mind." -- Louis Pasteur

It is good to see a VP program that gives information that isn't
all EV based.

For 9/6 JoB, starting with a single unit bankroll, I compute a probability
of 1/1054.467609892 that a player will survive to hit a royal flush.
A bankroll of 731 units is needed in order to have better than a 50%
chance of hitting a royal before going broke. These numbers are based
on max-EV strategy.

Using a strategy that maximizes the probability of hitting a royal before
going broke, the probability of surviving with a 1-unit starting bankroll
increases to 1/1038.679587718. With this optimized strategy, a bankroll
of 720 units is sufficient to give a 50% probability of hitting a royal
before going broke.

Do these numbers agree with your calculations?
