online vp contest

the atlantis online contest ends on Sunday.
it was a very short-term thing, makes me think it's a trial of some sort.
I'll see if they mention it at the stockholder's meeting today

It may end Sunday, but the contest started May 14. They also had a contest in January- maybe they have done more? Looks like they have hooked up with video poker.com for this contest.

I've been playing this off and on since the contest started. I know all about RNG and paytables but it sure does seem like I hit more of the big hands than I usually do in real play. I just haven't hit those big hands with the 10x or 12x multipliers like those on the leaderboard. It makes me wonder if there really is an RNG behind the scenes for this contest - any thoughts on the possibility that it's purposely programmed to generate big hands in order to stimulate interest in the game? Not just the contest, but interest in the game itself so that when people see it in the casino they'll play it.

I've played about a dozen times and it does seem like I'm very lucky. I got quad 4s dealt with 12X 4X 4X on the screen and got the kicker with the 12X. Another time I also had 12X 4X 4X and got quad Aces dealt. Not enough points to finish a winner in the contest but much, much better than I've ever done in a casino.

I noticed that shortly after the previous Atlantis online VP contest, for Dream Card poker, a bank of Dream Card machines appeared at Atlantis, but they disappeared a week later and haven't come back since, not sure why. Does make me wonder though if these online contests are designed either to gauge interest in certain types of VP machines, or to promote interest in them for live play etc. And wouldn't surprise me if the online contests are programmed to "pay" more similar to how live slot tournaments have more frequent winning combinations than real slot machines etc.

Happy Royal Hunting everyone.

If any of you are looking for Dream Card poker in Reno, I say some at the Silver Legacy this past weekend. Other than knowing that they are there, I didn't really check them out. The BASIC location is between the Boullion bar and North Virginia Street (closer to the bar). There may be others, but none of them caught my eye and I wasn't looking for them either.

It's not programmed to give ME big hands. And, hence, is NOT stimulating MY interest!

The results MAY be biased based on card level. Let's take a survey. What card level are those of you who've been "lucky?"

I haven't played there in years and never played that much.

There is one at SL. DDB is 9/5. There are 2 at GS, same 9/5 DDB.

I can tell you , the ULT X at Atlantis have horrible pay schedules, believe 9/5 DDB is the best available. Think of this game as 2X the Volatility of Super Aces - easy to go broke.
I've played this game alot in AC where they have a decent 8/6 Jacks ( nothing even close to that at ATL ). My results over about 20,000 hands is about $4000 loss playing 10C and quarters. I really need a 4X or higher RF to break even.

I dropped a few hundred experimenting with the game when people leave X multiplers on the machines; the best game here was 8/5 JOB. Then I went home and tried to do the math and solve the first order condition to get a sense of the BEP or break even point. I couldn't do it since it was hard. You look at the distribution of the ending hands and map it against the respective X multiper, you soon realize its hard to overcome the 10 coin entry fee for a 5 coin paytable.

I won't play this game again except to say:
1) You need to get streaks, which creates a bias for games with high hit ratios
2) If you play bonus structure games, it can be profitable if you hit quads at 80 for 1; I hit quads with a multplier and it didn't get me to positive, thus a bias for really FAT quads.
