Online live poker vs online video poker

FWIW, I believe that the major online live poker sites
offer fair games. I know and trust some principals at
a couple of these sites and they make their money
from the rake rather than from player's results.

OTOH, I will never trust online video poker sites until
their is effective regulation. Even if anecdotal evidence
is favorable, in a house banked game IMO there's too
much temptation to use gaffed software on occasion.
Anyone know how easy it is to use or substitute gaffed
software for fair software?

I feel just the opposite on this subject. I am leery of player
collusion at online poker rooms and trust the games at casinos that
use microgaming, cryptologic, boss, playtech and real time gaming
software though I don't trust all the casinos themselves. There will
never be regulation of onlines to match that of state gaming
commissions.

My response can only be anecdotal, too. And I've just started playing
a little online after playing about four in the late 1990s/early
2000's. I've seen no evidence that any of the bigger online casinos
using the established software vendors'programs have had crooked games.

I once belonged to a small, online group that swapped information
about these sites, usually about pay schedules, promotions, and
bonuses. No one ever felt the games were dishonest. The issues have
always been slow payouts and in some cases, casinos folding.

The casino I played at most often, Atlantic Interbet, did indeed fold,
and left some players high and dry. Others were paid off even after
the casino knew it was in trouble.

I've been playing at Intercasino and William Hill a bit lately, both
using Cryptologic software. So far, so good, other than no full-pay.

What I don't have experience with of late is what the different
casinos consider "promo abuse." It feels like it would be fairly easy
to get slightly profitable advantages if you had the time to scope out
the situation.
