Although I'm no expert on the subject, I thought I'd chime in on
today's hot topic.
Is internet gambling illegal (from a bettor's perspective)?
It depends. There is no federal law that explicity prohibits
online gambling. What about state laws? Well, about half the states
have laws against certain types of gambling and very few of those
states have laws specifically against internet gambling. For instance,
if you live in Texas, Florida, Louisiana or Nevada, than online
gambling is definitely illegal for you. For a California resident
like myself, it's perfectly legal to bet on horse races and to
play poker online, but it's hazy as to whether I can legally
play video poker online (and I do).
And that's my 2¢.
I also thought I'd mention that MGM does have an online casino up
although I don't think they're accepting U.S. wagers.
