Ohio Income Tax

I just went to Yahoo Groups, searched for this topic, and read the Feb 11 post by Jean Scott and the Feb 12th reply by Barry Glazer. Those two seem to be the most recent VPFree posts on this topic, so I’ll put this question to the entire group as April 15 draws near.

If you’re a NON-resident of Ohio who received W2-Gs from Ohio during 2013 and had the 4% state income tax + varying amounts of city income tax withheld from your W2-G payouts, can you receive a refund of that withheld tax by filing an Ohio tax return?

Some people have told me it’s hopeless; others have said that the it’s possible to get a refund of at least the STATE tax. I’ll appreciate input from anyone who knows Ohio law and/or has already filed an Ohio return for 2013.

Thanks.

Was that 100% of the amount that was withheld? Or, just the state tax, not the city tax?

What casino gave you the W2-G? Each city has its own tax rules, so whether you get back any CITY tax withheld depends on the city where the casino is and whether you can file a non-resident CITY return. Even if you can, the amount to be returned might be too small to bother with.

Okay, I am now clear about the basic change in the Stations program. It is now $1 coin-in=1 point but there is always 3x points – to keep it the same value as before. (This is what I wrote about in my last blog. http://jscott.lvablog.com/?p=3460)

The math that the status credits have had for VP since the last change did NOT change. Since 2011 it has been $1 coin-in = 1 status credit. (This is why there was so much complaint at that change! This downgraded comps big time.)

However, here is the issue that I am not clear on since I am no-mailed at Stations (thanks to a top-line royal on $1 Multi-strike) and I can’t find out more information personally. Does this change affect many – most? – promotions that are based on “base” points. It would seem that in the new system $1 coin-in gets you 1 BASE point instead of the old 3 BASE points. Usually – always? – promotions exclude multipliers so it would seem that it would take 3 times the amount of play for promotions as it used to.

But what I need is PERSONAL experiences – not opinion here – or what MIGHT be. It might be too early for definitive conclusions. But if you get/see a promotional offer and it says that it is based on $1=1 point and you have a way to compare it with past promotions, then it would be nice for you to share it here. I don’t immediately assume a casino is downgrading until I see proof. Maybe they will adjust their promotional offers to compensate for this new “base” number. Maybe they will offer some promotions that use the 3x all-the-time multiplier? (Okay – maybe I am a dreamer!!!! ) Whatever the situation, I need FACTS and personal experiences so my writing will be accurate!!!!! Can any of you help me!!!!

I also do not take what one employee says as gospel since so many of them do not get up-to-date information or they don’t understand it. I usually want confirmation from more than one source. This is why this forum is a good way to confirm information in spite of the problem that some members sometimes seem to confuse facts with speculation.

You’ve been no-mailed for a large Royal win? I understand why you would never give Stations any more of your play making you unable to research this for yourself. I wish I could help you out but I am personally boycotting them for the above reason.

Some were no mailed for winning, I was no mailed for

playing exclusively on $1 NSUD , even though I was

steadily losing , Stations sucks!

Some were no mailed for winning,

That’s odd. Their ads say they luv winners and video players. (They leave out only if they think they are stupid.)

I checked today to see if as a no mailed player who is normally excluded from multipliers, I would be eligible for the base 3X multiplier necessary to give me the advertised rate. The multiplier was available to me on the kiosk. It will be interesting to see what multiplier(s) are available to me on Sunday when they are advertising 6X points on video poker.

No change at Stations. They continue to deny multipliers to players they believe have an IQ exceeding their shoe size. Today is supposed to be 10X slots and 6X video poker for everyone but kiosk only showed a 3X multiplier for me.
