Off topic (Slots instead of VP)

Dear friends,

I wonder if someone can help me.

Over the past weeks and months of my reading the "posts" of this excellent
group, I have become (I think) subliminally aware of "slots" that may be
"simply fun", when one is seeking some harmless, mindless diversion, after
hours of blood, sweat, and tears at the VP machines.

What I am referring to are what I assume to be various "slot machines" that
have better times to play them, because of some "accummulating event", that
one can monitor just by walking by and just looking at the screen.

Are my thoughts along these lines correct?

Is there some "other" site that I may visit to get more information?

Thanks for your indulgence.

Now back to VP!

Word is, you're a couple years too late. From what I've heard almost
all of the "bonus round" machines have either been pulled or changed
so they are no longer attractive "drive-by" plays.

Type the following into Google for lots of links to web sites that
explain or promote this type of play. From a few minutes of browsing
I noted that many of the sites have pulled the info from their
current sites, and you have to call up the Google-cached version to
find the reference. This, too, indicates the big play is over.
However, even if that's true, there may still be a few isolated
machines around (especially at the smaller casinos) and maybe you can
find a few that will make it worth your while.

slot machine "banked bonus"
"bonus round" slot machine

Most of the bonus slots have been altered in their new generations
to prevent the kind of ugliness that happened when players would
hover near and try to intimidate people who had played long enough
to drive up the value of a bonus without hitting it. The vultures
would then swoop in and play minimum coins to hit the bonus. Many
of these machines turned into a positive play at the right levels.

Search the archives for our discussion of Piggy Bankin' slots, which
I think were the original. The newer ones, called Piggy Bankin' Big
Bang, do accumulate coin bonuses that you can see on a display above
the reels, but also have another bonus round built in which is
usually more valuable than what's in the Piggy Bank. The same with
Wild Cherry Pie which awards a bonus when you fill the pie with
cherries. Before you play, you can see how many cherries you need
to fill the pies (by having the WCP symbol stop on one of the 9
visible stops), but the bonus is "from 25 to 200 credits" plus
what's in the basket when you finally hit it. It's harder to tell
when these are a positive play since the bonus is chosen at random.
And I think the basket empties after a few minutes of the machine
sitting idle. (I don't know this for sure, but there never seems to
be any additional cherries in the basket on an idle machine, even if
the pie is almost full.)

Having said that, I do like to play WCP because it is fun when you
finally get that last cherry in the pie, even if it takes forever.
Other bonus games include Racing 7's and Diamond Mine.

I believe there are still some advantageous slots available. Charles

Asking about advantage slots is very appropriate on vpFREE,
and is likely to get you the information you're seeking.
If a slot discussion wanders too far afield, FREEvpFREE <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FREEvpFREE/> is always available.

On "Casino Gamblers" you may have to discuss it with yourself.
CG has very little traffic and what there is has been padded
with keno and craps threads.

Thanks for the several of you who replied to my question about what I guess
are called "Advantage Slots".

I have joined "Casino Gamblers", but I can see that there is not very much
traffic there. I hope to find out a bit more about them.

My wife and I are scheduled for our next trip to LV in about 3 weeks. It may be
fun to look into advantage slots, if we find any. It may be fun, it may be a bust.

In any event we will retain our addiction to VP. LOL

.....(questions about bonus slots).....<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

As the other posters have said, most of these machines have been
removed, although a small number are still hanging on here and there.

Interestingly, I remember looking at an old mechanical machine that
must have been close to 100 years old on display in the lobby of
Harrah's (now Horizon) casino in Vicksburg. The machine had a
pointer mechanism that would count how many consecutive spins the
player made without winning any thing at all. Any hit would reset
the pointer back to zero, but if the player went something like 10 or
15 spins with no payout at all, the machine would pay out a small
bonus of a few coins. Simple strategy would have been: look for
these machines with the pointer at one or two steps from the end.
Perhaps this was the first ever "bonus slot".

EE

Thanks! I have seen those before, but forgot about # 53

53. Keep an eye out for the banked bonus slots (Piggy Bankin, Wild Cherry
Pie, Buccaneer Gold etc.) that have a high bonus that someone has
abandoned. Play one coin at a time only until you get it, or until you lose the
amount of the bonus, then move on.
