Hi Gang:
Hedy and I want to thank everyone for all the info provided about
Harrah's/Horseshoe in Council Bluffs, Iowa. We leave Thursday for a three-night
stay and we'll be seeing a Train concert Thursday night and visiting the zoo
in Omaha on Saturday. Hedy's niece lives in Des Moines and will be driving
over with her family to join us for the weekend, so we're looking forward to
this trip for a number of reasons.
The following Friday, Sept. 10, (Hedy's birthday, by the way) we fly to
Vegas for the Seven Stars Signature Event. We'll be staying at Caesars
Palace for three nights.
Then, when we return home, we'll be gearing up for my second hip
replacement surgery on Sept. 28. I had my left hip done last December and it's
feeling great but my right has been getting worse and worse over the months and
my surgical team has advised me it's advisable that I get the other one done
as soon as possible, so we went ahead and scheduled it. I'll be back at
the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan again to finish out my
"matching pair." We'll be out of action for the month of October and a couple of
weeks into November but should be ready and rarin' to go by the holidays.
We also just got off a cruise aboard the Norwegian Jewel last Saturday and
had a nice time although the ship was loaded with kids (it was a
Nickelodeon cruise besides being one of the last ones of the summer) and all the
onboard venues (buffet, theater, pool) seemed to be overcrowded. We didn't do
well in the casino even though Hedy hit a $1G royal on the final night but
showed some play throughout the week to hopefully keep the
Harrah's/Norwegian free cruise ball rolling. The best paytable we saw was multi-play 9/6 DB
in quarters, halves and dollars but the game wasn't very kind to us. I also
played in two Hold 'em tournaments on board and bubbled in one and got
knocked out of the second on a ridiculous bad beat.
The ship was very comfortable, clean and nicely decorated and the ports
(Cape Canaveral, Great Stirrup Cay and Nassau) were fun. One of the
highlights was our visit to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. We will be
repeating the itinerary aboard the Gem out of New York in mid-November after my
surgery.
Thanks again for all the help on Iowa points of interest. Hopefully, we'll
be meeting up with some board members in Vegas.
Regards,
CoachVee & Hedy
