Odds & Ends & some good news

ODDS & ENDS

WYNN
Stayed there recently on a Tower Suite (1) offer & wife & I were duly
impressed with accommodations & service. Suite & artwork (mostly Picasso, Monet,
Van Gogh prints) were impressive. Played more than 16,000 pts but didn't read
offer closely as it said that was what you had to do to be considered for
additional comps. Didn't bother to ask for meal comps as we hadn't charged more
than $150. Would love to do this again but level of play makes me dizzy.

(1) Tower Suites entrance is located past the High Limit & before you get to
the gourmet Chinese restaurant. It has its own check-in & restaurant with a
limited menu. Attention to service is quite a bit higher, sort of like a
Ritz-Carlton but would still rate the Ritz as slightly better as their people are
trained to be less intrusive.

Anyway, here's some info gleaned from them:

Standard Room RFB: 8700 pts/day
Tower Suite Room only: 8000 pts/day
Tower Suite RFB: 14K - 19K/day (imagine the wide range is the wiggle
room depending on what you play & whether you won or lost)

DRIVING IN SNOWY CONDITIONS

Highway patrol says over half the accidents are in vehicles which have
4-wheel drive. Now I know why. Haven't had an accident driving my 4-wheeler but
recently went through a storm where there were a lot of 4-wheelers. People were
still driving at a good speed & I was trying to keep up with them until I
noticed drivers up ahead fishtailing & I began to too until traction control
kicked in. 4-wheel drive means you have better control but it's still not as
good as driving when dry.

GOOD NEWS

Been meaning to post about some good experiences that have happened over the
last couple months so will do it now before I forget the details:

SILVERTON, LAS VEGAS

Was there for New Years but didn't sign up for any parties. Had friends from
hometown visiting & staying in a Marriott time share near South Pointe. They
wanted a couple of things: to see the Star Trek Experience & to attend a NYE
party. Thought the Star Trek tickets would be easy as I'm at Ultra level. In
for a disappointment as host turned down my request for 4 comped tickets.
Subsequently bought them at 1/2-price outlet for about $30 apiece & then
canceled a future visit to LVH. LVH used to give these tickets away so it was a
shock to me as I have never used their free tickets for Manilow & thought asking
for something less wouldn't be a problem. As for NYE tickets, asked at the
last minute & expected to use comps for it. NYE party was Hootie & the
Blowfish & friends were big fans. Tickets were $75 each & needed 4. Silverton People
went out of their way to accommodate me & surprised me by comping them &
then surprised me again by coming up with another 4 tickets but I declined the
additional tickets but thanked them for their generosity. This is the 2nd time
when I've asked for event tickets where another casino has outshone LVH.
It's too bad, LVH used to be my first pick but I have to acknowledge that the
Strip casinos are a better value even though I still have fond feelings for it.

PEPPERMILL, RENO

Ever leave a machine with credits still in it? I did & was so tired that I
forgot about it completely. Left about $400 & was ready to get some shut eye
when I noticed that my message light was blinking. Often I ignore it as it's
usually about a fruit basket or a message for the previous occupant that
hadn't been cleared but, for some reason, I picked it up. Message advised me to
contact one of the floor supervisors. Earlier in the day an attendant hand paid
me & he noticed that I left the machine with credits in it. He cashed it out
& then had someone find out if I was a guest & that's how I got the
voicemail & my money back. I was impressed that someone went out of their way to
track me down. Yes he got another tip.

CIRCUS CIRCUS, RENO

Stayed there recently on an offer received even though I hadn't gambled
there in years. Must be due to MGM connection. Can report that standard rooms in
their tower are pretty nice & I would prefer them over Silver Legacy as the
rooms are larger but I knew that as I used to stay there after they renovated
about 7-8 years ago. Can say that the room that I had didn't look the worse
for wear. Didn't gamble or eat there as I didn't have much time but stay made
me consider putting them back on my to-do list as I plan to go back & play
there.

EDGEWATER, LAUGHLIN

Stayed there on NYE (after getting my friends what they wanted in LV,
decided to get some peace & quiet for myself). Since I had no reservations, they
came up with the best available which was a small end room on the 26th floor.
It turned out to be a very nicely-furnished room which was comparable to the
way a mini-suite would be furnished except this was deserving of the term
"mini-suite". In comparison to a standard room, it was probably smaller but the
way it was furnished made up for it.

I meet a lot of people in Laughlin who stay at Harrahs because their rooms
are nicer than the other casinos. Well, the mini-suites at Edgewater should
change their mind. Initially I was only going to stay one day but I liked the
room so much that I extended my stay & had to switch to the room across the
hall which was also just as nice, a bit larger but worse view. If you're used to
staying in LV Strip suites then don't come here but if you're used to
Laughlin standard then try this for a pleasant change of pace.
