Odd Happenings, Part 2

Hi Gang:
Hedy and I just returned from a weekend trip to the Horseshoe (Harrah's) in
Tunica this weekend and although the gambling didn't go so well at the
Roadhouse (the Harrah's property next door that has 24 machines that feature
five games that return at least 99.9%) we had a very nice time.
The trip featured a complimentary visit to Graceland, spa treatments for
both Hedy and me and a couple of wonderful dinners at the Horseshoe's Jack
Binion's Steakhouse with our friends Kathy and Steve from Atlantic City. We
even met up with our buddy Harry Porter for breakfast on Saturday and had a
great time catching up.
The story I wanted to relate, however, is about a very strange blackjack
hand I observed while Hedy and I were at the casino host desk waiting to have
a food comp issued.
The blackjack table nearby had two players, one sitting in seat No. 2 and
the other in third base. I wandered over to watch and noticed that the
dealer had an ace showing. The player in Seat 2 played his hand and got a 19 and
the player in the third base seat stood on 17.
The dealer turned over his hole card and revealed a second ace.
He hit his hand and got another ace! He hit it again and got a fourth ace!
He hesitated and looked down at his cards in disbelief.
The next card out was a king, giving him 14. He hit again and got a FIFTH
ACE! His next card was a five, giving him a seven-card 20 with five aces!
The dealer called over the pit boss and showed him the hand. He said he had
been dealing for 15 years and had never seen anything like that. I've been
playing blackjack for many more years than that and can say I've never seen
a hand like that either. Interestingly enough, both players continued to
play at that table. If it had happened to me, I think I would have picked up
my chips and moved on!
Regards,
CoachVee & Hedy

Tom, I might have left too. But the question is why? Would you have left because of your "bad luck" on this one unusual hand or would you have left because with that many aces removed from the shoe the game was not one with a positive EV?

Yeah, the side count of Aces wasn't looking to good was it? LMAO!

I split 7,7 to six hands at the Sands once.
After the hand pit boss told dealer not to split to more than four hands.
I lost four out of six.

I received the following from someone in IL. I hadn’t heard of this new development. My first thought - are these games random??? Anyone know about these?

Illinois has new video gaming machines opening (max 5) at any place that serves alcohol. They are just getting government approved very slowly at first. The local Springfield IL Japanese Buffet was one of the first to get them and the paytables have me questioning what the odds are. A couple more joints have just opened up and they all have the same pay table.
The max payout allowed by law here is $500.00. Am I better getting the 9/6 at Par-A-Dice for DDB or are these any where close with the increase in the straight flush.

I wrote a reply back on 9/14/12 about these.

The IGT games have a feature called "Wheel of Gold" which gives a wheel spin for quad 5-K when max bet 8x25c which I have no idea what the added value is.

The paytables range from 95.49% Bonus Deuces to 96.51% Bonus Poker Deluxe using Frugal Video Poker but excluding the feature.

Still hoping somebody has info about the feature.

As others have already pointed out Jean, Illinois has legalized restricted gaming in bars/restaurants and truck stops similar to Nevada has for some non-gaming businesses. By law, the games ARE random, the max bet can be no larger than $2, and the max win is CAPPED at $500. The max win rule forces odd changes to the paytable for anyone wagering more than 5 quarters, because otherwise returns would decrease with larger wager. The 5-coin return in your example is 94.79% while the 8-coin return is 94.89% thanks to the straight flush boost. But sadly the odd strategy changes will probably eat that extra 0.1% back for most players crazy enough to play this for $2 per hand.

The best video poker I was able to find in the one restaurant I tried playing this in was 7/5 Super Aces Bonus...97.61% for 1 coin...97.92% for 5 coins (2000 coin royal, 4 Aces)...and I believe 97.98% for max bet (2000, Royal, SF, 4 Aces; 720 4 2-4s; 440 4 5-Ks). State law forces a 80% minimum payout and a 100% maximum payout. Unfortunately, it'll be unlikely to find good paying video poker machines in these locations.

For penny slot addicts, however, based on the first few monthly reports, the penny slots are returning slightly better than the casinos.

How many decks? Obviously more than one, but...

He hesitated and looked down at his cards in disbelief.
