Nuts?

I remember once at a casino a guy on a wheel chair who was very
talkative would play briefly on dollar and five dollar VP machines.
He would outrageously deviate from strategy and remarked he was doing
it. I was puzzled, but I did not tell him how to play because he knew
the right plays, he was just purposely doing otherwise. I did not see
the point, as the guy was not winning. I left without understanding
if there was method to his play.

Anyone else has explanations for the behavior of these people other
than they are nuts? Maybe they are just nuts.

One Scenario
Maybe he was gambling with money/credit that's community property assets &
it's going to be a nasty divorce?

I've observed the same sort of behavior in a neighbor who is a college graduate in business, yet will ignore commonsense rules as well as the advice of recognized experts. Her house was in foreclosure, but she failed to take action till the afternoon before the sale, and only then because I called the lawyer, set up an appointment, and loaned her the attorney fee. Another time she ignored my advice not to let her dogs run free, and two of them were killed. Another example was when she came into a lot of money, stashed $100,000 in cash at home against my advice to keep it in a bank. Her drug-using boyfriend found it and took off with it. She makes bad decisions every day, knowing the risks and knowing the chances of a favorable outcome are minuscule. Since she's not crazy, I finally decided that to her, living a free and reckless lifestyle is far more important than the material rewards of a logical and planned one, which requires self discipline, can be a bit boring, and which requires postponing gratification more than a microsecond. I'm sure that if she played video poker she would play the machine based on hunch and the kharma of a certain card rather than probability of outcome! If there's a psychologist in the group, perhaps they have a better explanation than mine, but that's the best I've been able to come up with.

I know people like that too. No matter what you tell them, they want what they want when they want it and dont think of the consequences.
It may be sexist, but I think theres more women like this then men. Maybe they think they dont deserve financial security. This woman, especially if she's dating a drug user, seem's to have more than her share of psychological problem's.
