Nothing like a Royal to get people playing Multistrike Poker

My wife and I spent 4 days at the Par-a-Dice Casino in Peoria,
Illinois to do some research for our new website (coming soon). We
were checking out new directions in video poker and their impact on
the gaming public.

The Par-a-Dice has implemented a ticket in, ticket out (TITO) system
and we were interested in customers reactions to it as well.

While busily working and noting, we watched a few players at the
MultiStrike games. These are usually noteworthy for their lack of
interested players, usually because they don't understand how to play
the games.

But on a Saturday night, when the place was packed, there weren't
many games open.

So, we watched and found ourselves in for the treat of the Electronic
Gaming Machines version of heaven.

A woman was playing at the 25 cent level, full 20 coins, 4 levels at
5 coins per.

She had not had much success so far, but now she was moving up the
lines. Reaching third level and having a paying hand, she expressed
gratitude to have reached that far.

But fourth level was going to more than make up for previous
shortcomings. Four cards, each from a royal showed up. She held
them of course. The moment of truth. The click. And suddenly the
fourth level, with its 8x pay, burst with energy. The missing card
was there! A royal flush!

But consider that the payoff was 8x the usual 4000 credits. 32,000
credits on a quarter machine! $8,000 payout!

Eveyone on that deck seemed to find their way to the screen.

Suffice it to say that the Multistrikes found a way to arouse public
interest. They were never busier after this event.

Isn't that an interesting phenomenon? Witnessing a jackpot hit on a
machine, VP or slots either one, somehow gives us greater confidence
in the machine. As if we thought they were lying to us at first.

A similar thing happened locally here on two banks of sequential
royal progressives. They were installed in early May and have had
somewhat lackluster attendance as they worked their ways through the
first cycle, with the jackpots rising as high a $19,000 on one and
$25,000 on the other. Well, a couple weeks ago both jackpots got hit
within a week of each other, and since then the machines have been
much more popular, with jackpots reset at $5000 and $12,000, than
they ever were with $19-25k jackpots. Go figure.

Interesting. Here in KC, I only see the jackpots that high at the Ameristar and only once a year, maybe. You can't get near the machines without a long wait.
