note to casinos on casino gifts - pet peeve

There is one thing I hate about getting gifts from casinos - why do they
always put some sort of brand name on them? Thus making it hard for you to
give away the gift item to a relative or friend. I just received a nice
Coby Digital Picture Frame as a surprise gift from Harrahs (for the 7*
signature event). But they just HAD to stick a big label on the frame that says
"Signature Event Las Vegas 2010". Not only don't I need a digital picture
frame, they also sent one to my husband, another 7* player.

So now we have 2 nice frames we don't need or want to use. I'd love to
give them to my nieces as Christmas gifts. But - what do I tell them about
the non-removable label?? It is obvious I'm regifting the gifts. I can't
really sell them either.

Argh.

This happens all the tiime, on everything from coolers to clocks to
salt&pepper sets. It is one thing for a casino to want to brand name t-shirts or
tote bags, but why brand name everything from the cheap to the expensive
that goes inside someone's home?

Also, no doubt it costs the casinos more to plaster on their brand onto
these items than to have them sent plain. And instead of making those of us
who receive them happy, we sit wondering how we can give the extra stuff we
can't use away without offending our relatives and friends.

Wake up casino marketing!!!!

Once again, ARGH!

I have to disagree with you on this one. The last thing any casino is going to be concerned about, is how easy it will be for you to get rid of something they give you, and I can't see why they should change.

The gifts are meant as momentoes of a specific occasion and many times are marked as such. This doesn't stop you from giving the gift away, it just stops you from being able to say you went out and specifically purchased the item for some one.

I get lots of souvenirs from casinos as well. The useful items I keep and use, some get stuffed in a corner, and lots are given away to friends and family as "Bonus" gifts.

I have a bigger problem with gifts that are totally out of fashion/ inappropriate (i.e. a couple of years ago Sams Town was handing out very nice engraved hip flasks). I have a bigger problem with gifts that are hard/impossible to pack (i.e. a super fancy Margarita making machine that was in a huge box and was very heavy). In vegas where a lot of your customers are out of towners that fly in make your gifts packable.

I remember once my wife and I got really nice picnic backpacks at Caesars. We put them in our luggage and forgot about them. However at the airport we get pulled over by security because the pack had large cutting knives in them. Ooppss!

After a 20 minute delay and loss of knives we were on our way. This was a couple of months after 9/11.

I havent had the problem in Atlantic City. I'm not 7-stars or anything, but most of the gift's I get dont have the casino name on them.
I did have a problem in Vegas with a Harrahs winter slot tournament. When you showed up, they gave you a cookie jar, a set of plates and a set of coffee mug's. It's hard for someone coming in on an airplane to pack up all that stuff to take it home.

Our problem is really with Liquid gifts, which you cant get past security. We usually will give away any liquid gift ( wine, lava lamp, etc ) worth less than $25, and ship the others back home.
Mccarran airport has a really nice US post office INSIDE THE TERMINAL at the intersection of C/D gate.
best wishes...Tom

The Engraving says Sams Town. You are going to receive it for a Christmas present if I remember to bring it on my next trip.
