Not Winning Like the Old Days

Lately on my trips to Vagas and my local casinos the VP seems to be tighter than ever. I can never seem to come out ahead. For years I would fluctuate between positive and negative outcomes but in the last 6 months it is impossible to win. I see people winning hundreds on penny slots and think that maybe they are the smarter players. They get more points, more cash back and better comps. All I get is a pocket full of ATM receipts.

These days, usually the loosest slot at any given casino is a penny slot. Notice I didn't say just any penny slot, you have to be selective. The worst penny slots can have 10 to 15% holds while the best can be overlays. Most of the machine hustlers have switched to penny slots. Here's a youtube video that gives you some ideas:

Yeah, good luck with THAT! Do you know how rare it is to find a Quick Strike with a $47 minor, and a seat open? lol Yes, it's possible, and I've found them, and played them. But I'm still working on my first $1 million profit. I'll get back to you.

By the way, thanks so much to the idiots who make instructional youtube videos on this kind of stuff.

Tighter (and looser) vp machines? Nonsense!

There's a lot of competition for these machines, no doubt. Some casinos have a lot of Quick Strike and clone type machines, like in California. And the trick to improve your odds is to "stalk" the machines when they are getting close, without looking like you're stalking them, 'cause security will 86 you if you look like you're stalking Quick Strikes or Ultimate X's or Super 8 Line or Super 8 Race or those Asian machines and so on. A good idea would be to read Mickey's posts about playing in Montana, now the Montana machines aren't available in Nevada or California, but the same concepts apply to machines that are in Nevada and California. Also check out the Wizard's page on how to find the hold of a slot machine:

Another trick to how to stalk these machines without getting 86ed is to find a casino like my own local joint where the Security just don't give a f--k. I imagine Vegas may be entirely different. And it never hurts to be a person with a little bit of imagination.

Either way, It's always worth a look by walking the floor when you first enter a casino. But don't quit your day job. Unless this is your day job, in which case, seek psychiatric help.

I'll see if I can throw you guys a bone. I'm gonna put up a screenshot and a youtube video of Red Hot Jackpots. According to what I've read online this IGT game is available all over the United States, except its not here in Montana. Unless the machines have been pulled out you should have no problem finding this game in the major markets. I ran into the game in Deadwood, South Dakota. So here is the screenshot. I'll write about the game below the screenshot.

This is the one cent version of the game. The four machines are linked together. It's a five reel machine. You can see the four different progressives. The key meter is the small meter, the one at $5.41. It resets at $5 and runs at 5%.

The main symbol in this game is the Red Hot Jackpots symbol. When making a max bet of 100 coins ($1) and you catch 3 Red Hot Jackpot symbols in the window you are awarded 8 free spins. You get payed for all line pays....and you get 1 point for every Red Hot Jackpot symbol you catch during the free games. If you collect 8 points you get the money in the small meter.

If, during the free games, you catch 3 Red Hot Jackpot symbols in one spin you are awarded another 8 free spins and you get a shot at the next meter up which, in the screenshot is at $28.95. Collect 8 points during the free spins and you get that meter, etc.

The strategy to this game is to key off the ploppie action. Bet the minimum and just goof off until the small meter reaches $9. Then you go to the max bet and play until you catch the 3 Red Hot Jackpot symbols or someone else does. Playing at $9 or higher will cover the cost of trying to get into free game mode.

If there were three other players on this bank betting max coins they are only going to have to miss catching the 3 Red Hot Jackpot symbols a collective 80 spins to put the small meter on $9.

But the most ideal situation would be if those three players were all short coining, say betting 50 cents each. They are running the meter up but not qualifying for it. Every time the meter reaches $9 you don't have any competition playing for it.

And another good thing about this play. If the rest are short coining and you catch the 3 Red Hot Jackpot symbols, you have to hit the start button to start the free games. As long as the rest are short coining you can sit there and let them continue to run the meter up before you take your shot at getting the 8 points.

But it doesn't really matter what situation you run into. Its all good as long as you wait for the small meter to get to $9 before playing.

And here's some more good news. This game also comes in 5 cent denom. The small meter starts at $25 and you wait until the meter hits $45.

Here's a youtube video of the 5 cent denom. The video starts when the lady caught the 3 Red Hot Jackpot symbols and then hit the start button to start the free games. They turned the camera off at 2:27 then turned it back on again when the lady caught the 3 Red Hot Jackpot symbols again.

I played this game for a few years at my local joint and actually made some decent pocket change. I think it was a bank of ten or twelve machines. I used to come in when the minor was about $22 or so, it re-set to $10. Yes, many people short-coined it and that was always sweet sitting there free-rolling. One morning I walked in about 3:00 a.m. and the minor was like $45 and no one was playing. Holy shit, I sat down so fast I almost ripped my pants. I peeled it off pretty fast.

Sadly, and incredibly, our slot manager, a true genius in his own right, pulled this extremely popular game. Even God probably doesn't understand why he did that. This guy is constantly moving machines in and out, no matter how popular or profitable they may be. And he's giving ice in the winter time with video poker, screwed down tight tight tight. But alas, back to the Red Hot Jackpots, it's been gone now at least over a year. This guy ruins everything.
