I'll commiserate. Stuck for about $1K on the 9/6 Spin Poker machines at MCC. I play $5.00 a spin, 4 lines. Not sure why I am betting so big on a negative expectation play, but too far deep in now to back out ... :frowning:

Well, I've been going to Greektown usually on Sunday nights with a much smaller bankroll, usually $ 100. Playing $.25 dueces wild with little luck no natural royals and dueces very seldom. Seems like the $ 100 is gone in an hour or less, makes me wonder.

I have not written to vpDetroit before but I thought that I'd share my recent experience with Greektown. I had been out of town from January to April and when I returned they told me that due to inactivity some of my comps had been deleted. I was quite surprised by this policy as I don't remember this happening to me before and I couldn't find anything in writing about this policy in the Club Greektown rules. I figured that I lost about $100 in comps, not a lot but still I wasn't happy about it. I e-mailed Grrektown and tried to convince them to reinstate my comps since I have been such a loyal customer, giving them my gambling business almost exclusively over the years and I usually am at their casino at least once a month.

Sorry that I didn't complete my story in the previous e-mail....(distractions of Mother's Day)

I did receive a reply to my e-mail questioning the comp deletion from someone at Club Greektown. This individual indicated that their policy of deleting comps is similar to what other casinos in the area do and they were not willing to consider reinstating them for me even if it meant losing me as a customer. It seems pretty short sighted to me. Maybe I'm just not a big enough loser or player. I almost exclusively play video poker at the 25 and 50 cent level. Has anyone else had this experience? Any comments from the group?

It's not unusual that Greektown doesn't understand their competition and isn't entirely truthful about their comp policy. Try and get them to state what their comp policy is.

Now that comps are exchangeable for cash at a 3:1 rate, you might be able to pursue with MGCB. One of the only times they have ruled in favor of a player is with cashback never expiring.

MGM comp policy remains a mystery.

Nick,

My experience at Motor City was a couple of years ago and things frequently change.

I have heard that MGM uses a 6 trip average for comps. Exactly what that means, I don't know. It sounds like if you play huge one day, you could only get 1/6 ( approximately) of your comp total on that day. Sounds like another screwed up comp system.

Preston,

I suggest buying Dunbar's Risk Analyzer for about $20. It will show you exactly what your results will look like for various short term plays.

Taking your example, NSUD is 99.73%. Subtract a little for errors. If you don't hit a royal, subtract 1.84%. No deuces, there goes another 3.73%. There will be a whole lot of sessions where you insert $100 and don't hit deuces or a royal. When that happens, you will last about 6%, which means that $100 gets you about $1670 CI before you go broke or about 1340 hands. Depending on how fast you play, 1 - 2 hours.

That's the way the game works. If you told me you played for 2 hours , didn't hit deuces or a royal, I'd say you had a pretty good session.

This may add to any confusion that is out there, but I spoke to the folks in the Greektown gift shop/store last week. I told them I was going to try and bulk up on comps and then unload for something decent from their store. They advised me that Greektown comp balances are on a rolling six month basis. Comps expire six months after being earned, regardless of the activity on your card in the meantime.

So if I understand correct, and was given good information, if you do not redeem any comps there, whatever you earned 180 days ago will be dropped off no matter what. It then follows that comps are deducted on a first-in, first-out basis. At least I hope so.

The lady at the booth would not tell me how much of my comp dollars are set to expire soon, however.

I am confused by all of these exceptions to the rules but I have an odd experience at MGM. I was considering a meal at Pallete prior to playing and asked the cashier what I had available. She said she couldn't tell me unless I was ready to use them now. I asked her why and she told me that if I go out and win, my comp level would drop.

Can that be true?

This is correct and that is what I have been told and it also is suppose to work that way at motor city too. I lost $800 in comps at Greektown once and needless to say I was a little pissed about that, but they don't give you much info at the player's club booth. At least at motor city you can swipe your card and get a total of what you have at any kiosk machine. Every time I go to motor city now I end up buying something in the gift shop to comp and you have to spend at least $50. Even if I don't want it myself and end up giving it away, even as gifts sometimes. The merchandise is way over-priced, but if you are going to loose it or use it, you might as well get something for your comps. From what I understand they roll off on the last day at midnight of the calender month and only the last 6 months of comps earned are kept in your bank then, so it's FIFO, first in, first out for comp use.

I think it means if you go out and PLAY at all that same day it will affect your current comp balance after you stop playing then for that day.

From what I know, I was up at the player's club and a couple next to me came up and asked for a comp, while I was being waited on, but the girl helping me, had to take a phone call, so as I stood there, I heard there experience..... The girl working told them, that it would be BEST, if they came in and ate FIRST on a comped meal.... because their comps are already there and she told them how much and where they could go to eat. BUT, she said if they went out and played FIRST and then decided to eat later, their comps might be lower, or not even enough there to eat on, depending on how much they played first.... so I'm guessing the comps there, must be AVG, by a daily AVG and once you get done playing or maybe by a certain time frame of not playing or maybe by midnight, or whatever their new day is considered to be, and depending on how much you play that day, your COMP balance changes by your AVG daily coin-in or how much you put through the machine, or who knows what formula they are using now, it could even be by win/loss now too, or a combo of all of this.

But the girl definitely told them to EAT first before you play at MGM if you want to use your comps, that way you get the best benefits from your comp balance she told them.

So the moral of the story is..... go to the casino hungry ! lol

You can write Greektown back and tell them that Motor City will tell you your comp balance to the penny and I have never had a comp balance expire at Motor City. I once ran the comp account down to about $0.18. I didn't play for about 18 months and when I returned, there was $0.18 in my comp account.

I had been out of town from January to April and when I returned they told me that due to inactivity some of my comps had been deleted. I was quite surprised by this policy as I don't remember this happening to me before and I couldn't find anything in writing about this policy in the Club Greektown rules. I figured that I lost about $100 in comps, not a lot but still I wasn't happy about it. I e-mailed Grrektown and tried to convince them to reinstate my comps since I have been such a loyal customer, giving them my gambling business almost exclusively over the years and I usually am at their casino at least once a month.
