Northern Nevada VP adventure Trip - Long

You skipped Battle Mountain, Wells and Lovelock on your drive west.

There is a little casino next to >>Winners in Winnemucca that had a big sign on
the door- "No guns allowed". I did not go in.

I don't know if anybody missed much of anything in Wells....if you're going
to stop there, you might as well stop in Carlin too. I've driven by but
never had time to stop at the Casino in Battle Mountain (The Owl Club?).

It sounds like the big tour of Elko missed Gold Dust West, but I'm pleased
to hear our little corner of the world made a favorable impression.

As an overall side note, I'm amused that places like the Eastside Cannery
in Las Vegas are making a big deal out of their "classic" old coin out
machines. We've got loads of those up here but I don't think anybody is
necessarily thrilled by them still being around. (I know I'm not too thrilled by
waiting around while the machine clunks out seven or eight hundred dimes.)

Well there's something amusing about a dealer and pitboss who both appear they fell off the barstool to start pitching cards to you. When I was there the pitboss was smoking a cig, in street clothes, while reading the paper. The dealer was the Flo type from Mel's Diner and asked, "Did you want to play some cards honey?" I sat for about 30 minutes and had quite a time observing the entire scene play out.

Did Ms. Flo-type mention what the option was to playing cards? {{O:

Just curious.....

The last time I was in Winnemucca Winners (about 2 years ago), they had a small section of what had to be - Version 1 of video poker bar tops. These few machines were $1 coin machines that had to be played with coins. This was before "credits" were invented. The graphics of the cards were very primitive. Fun to play, but it sure slowed you down.

Also, I remember stopping at a truck stop along the way (near Carlin?) that had some very playable vp. I am sure those are long gone.
