Non-smoking Sections in Casinos

First of all, this thread is very relevant to vp, given that it directly relates to the conditions under which we play most vp.

Secondly, a non-smoking "bank" of machines, while better than nothing, does not eliminate the dangers of second-hand smoke to players in such an area, given the fact that people may be smoking in close proximity (often times very close by). In addition, second-hand smoke can drift, and no ventilation system completely eliminates second-hand smoke from the air. And walking through a smoke-filled casino to get to such an area adds to the danger.

Non-smokers who spend any amount of time in most casinos in this country are endangering their health, and I think this is a factor every non-smoker should consider in deciding whether their hobby is worth continuing. (the move away from full-pay machines being another  ).

Smokers often deny that second-hand smoke is dangerous, but the evidence tilts far more in favor of the dangers of second-hand smoke than its (supposedly) benign effects. I would believe a report issued by the Surgeon General of the United States over websites run by smokers, websites that are perhaps funded by the tobacco industry.

The trend here and overseas is to eliminate ALL indoor public smoking, including "private" places of business, such as restaurants and bars. That is a good trend, and I encourage any of us who care about the health of themselves and others to continue to fight to get casinos to go smoke-free. If they will not do it voluntarily, then we will have to continue to attack the problem through legislative and legal means.

Fiesta Rancho has a whole bank of non-smoking Optimum Play machines, right
across from the Amigo Club. You might want to inquire at Sunset, not sure
if non-smoking machine banks are a Stations-wide policy or just a pleasant
outlier at Rancho...

If you are so worried about your health why don't you stay out of

casinos? You are not forced to be there. You have a right to say no.
What you want is your addiction to be a priority over another persons
addiction.
If it was a work place and you were forced to be there you would
have a legit gripe, but it's not.
You believe it your right to take away anothers right and you use
the health card to whine your case. Again, if you are so worried stay
home. And please save us all the "i have a right" So do the smokers.
How many people die and are mamed in auto accidents every year?
Should we ban cars for health reasons?
You people make me sick!!

Just for the record: I'm a non-smoker

I have posted before and will post again. Yes, smokers have a right
to smoke. What they do not have the right to do is blow it on non-
smokers, let their smoke drift onto non-smokers, and do not have the
right to say it is not their fault but it is the fault of the casino
ventilation etc.

If someone sat next to you and coughed all over you or peed on you
would you support their right?

There are rights and there are wrongs. It is wrong to let your smoke
infringe on another persons personal space.

Sadly, too many who are often victims of drunk drivers...

Should we ban cars for health reasons?

Absolutely! Car exhaust fumes are as toxic as cigarette smoke. If no one drove, think how
quickly the air would clean up and smog would disappear!

You people make me sick!!

In all likelihood hanging around people who drink, drive and smoke will do that!

Just for the record: I'm a non-smoker

Good, then I won't have to point and spray Febreze around me should you sit and light up
around me.
