Non-smoking Sections in Casinos

MOST casinos have non-smoking areas?

Can you please tell me where the non-smoking areas are at Venetian, Treasure
Island, Rio, Orleans, Flamingo, Stardust and Sunset Station because these
are the casinos that I visit regularly.

Other than the poker rooms, I do not recall seeing any non-smoking areas in
any of these casinos.

I would love to know where they are located, so I can be sure to utilize
them. Thanks.

want to be around the smoke or find it unbearable - play in the non-
smoking section or go to a casino that has better ventilation. I
think the same can be said that if you want to smoke - go to an area
that smoking is allowed and will not bother non-smokers. Again, I

You are right, Curtis. There are virtually no non-smoking areas (for video poker players) in Las Vegas and only a smattering in all of Nevada. If there actually were NS areas, there would be little or no controversy about this subject.

Fiesta Rancho has a whole bank of non-smoking Optimum Play machines, right
across from the Amigo Club. You might want to inquire at Sunset, not sure
if non-smoking machine banks are a Stations-wide policy or just a pleasant
outlier at Rancho...

Actually, MS originally stated that MOST casinos have non-smoking
areas. Later, MS said SEVERAL casinos have non-smoking areas.

But, for some reason, MS has not revealed the names of ANY casinos
which offer non-smoking areas!

Maybe, MS could enlighten us all with the NAMES of the casinos
that she goes to, which have non-smoking areas?

Maybe, not.

Nope....I don't think that most casinos have non-smoking areas.

I have not seen a casino on the strip in recent years with a non-
smoking area. I think at one time (maybe 10 years ago) there was one
at Excalibur but I don't know if it is there anymore or not and I
don't remember there being any video poker in that area.

Last year I saw a non-smoking area off strip at Boulder Station. It
consisted of a few rows of slot machines. None were the popular
ones. There was no video poker. There was one woman playing in this
area. And she was smoking away. So much for non-smoking.

I can sometimes find non-smoking blackjack tables on the strip but
they are always next to a smoking table so the smoke drifts over.

How nice it would be if the casinos offered a large non-smoking area
(that was enforced) that included all types of machines and table
games.

Hey! Guess what! This weekend, I found a casino that has a non-smoking

Well, actually, it's a row of non-smoking slot machines at Sam's Town right
in the middle of a smoke-filled casino. It's hardly a non-smoking
'section'!

Anyway, I will keep looking for those non-smoking sections in Vegas
casinos....

Fiesta Rancho has the same sort of "non-smoking" set-up. Against one
wall is a bank of 6 MG/MD "Optimum" machines, which contain, among
other games, FPDW. These machines are also completely bounded by
smoking areas, though it is a small help that they are set against a
wall.

Occasionally, a smoker mistakenly plops down at one of the N/S
machines. They are usually politely chased by other players. If
civility does not move them, a slot attendant will do the job. Only
once did I see an acriminous exchange between players.

While not ideal due to smoke in the general vicinity , it is certainly
better than nothing. I commend the Fiesta on least trying to offer a
refuge to their N/S patrons.

Not me, Babe. If the Fiesta really wanted to offer a non-smoking area, I would do it for them free of cost. I would print up a bunch of no-smoking signs that can be folded into triangles and placed on top of the machines, pick out one or two areas of 20-30 banks of machines (all machine together on one side of a big aisle) and put the signs on them. That's exactly how easy it is. I give no credit at all to Fiesta (or any other casino that does this) for their little fake effort. Just the opposite. They do it as a sop to non-smokers and to be able to say (although probably not with a straight face) that they have a NS area. It's not an effort, it's the Fiesta saying "*&^%$ you, non-smokers! Here's your NS area. Sit there and see how you like it."

Just my opinion, of course.

Over here at Atlantic City, several Casinos have No Smoking areas,
but most are not that effective. Some better than others.

However, Resorts has an area that is quite separate from the rest of
the casino floor. It is somewhat enclosed, and they make a show of it
with a sign that says - The only thing Smoking here is our Slots" or
something like that.

With the recent report from the surgeon general, the casinos should realize that lawsuits are on the horizon from non smokers afflicted by smoking in casinos that the owners could have prevented. The employees and patrons will want to take action when they are affected by tobacco users. If a casino sets up a genuine no smoking area, same paytables, same level of comfort, strict enforcement of the rules, and is honest about wanting the area, it will work. The casinos fall back on the Silver City experiment as an excuse that it doesn't work. The Silver City had no slot club, a lousy buffet with no real restaurant, and paytables lower than the competition; that's the real reason for its failure.

Do you think Casinos in the US will become No-Smoking?
All public places will become No-Smoking over here in a year or so, even
private clubs. The only place you'll be allowed to smoke will be outside
or in your own home, & I'm not sure how long they'll allow that for either.

Atlantic City probably will in a year or two. A bunch of powerful people are pushing for it. If their profit's go up aftger banning smoking, Nevada will probably follow soon.

I used to smoke over 4 packs a day. However, the way I was brought up
and the way properly socialized people acted was to be considerate of
other people. In other words, if I sat in a park, restaurant or
casino near someone else before I lit a cigarette I'd ask if the
neighbors minded. On occasion, someone would. If I was really having
a bad withdrawal attack I would find somewhere else to light up. And
I'm in my 50's, not particularly prehistoric.

Your attitude, on the other hand, reflects the discourtesy that too
many smokers today show. When politely asked to hold their cigarette
in another spot or blow smoke in a different direction the response
is often "This is Las Vegas!" or "I'm in a casino" as if we all lived
by the law of the trailer park.

Please be considerate of other people as you would expect them to be of you.

Skip,

This is a brilliant idea! I would like to be the first to volunteer
not to play for one week! It has to be this coming week, however.

As Babe said...A GREAT IDEA!

EXCEPT, if it is that 1 week, out of 13, that I happen to be
visiting LV. Those of us who visit LV occassionally do not have the
incentive to really join any such boycott, since our time in LV is
limited. I would hardly want to fly into to LV just to not play.

And, on a more serious note, would the casinos even notice? Are
there really enough non-smoking locals to really make a difference
that would be noticed by any of the casinos? (I don't know the
answer to these questions?)

Please don't assume you know anything about me by my post. I do not smoke. I know MANY considerate smokers. I also no MANY inconsiderate Non smokers. Until smoking is ILLEGAL, private businesses should have the RIGHT to allow or limit whatever behavoir they care to in their establishments and that includes smoking.
