Hi Gang:
Hedy and I flew in from New Orleans this morning and had one of our better
trips in a long time thanks to a machine that was on fire Sunday and
Hedy's Hail Mary Hit on Yom Kippur!
Our stay began quietly on Saturday when we played evenly for most of the
day before losing a few hundred just before retiring for the night. We had
picked up a free NCL cruise certificate earlier, so the day couldn't be
considered a total loss.
Sunday morning after breakfast Hedy sat down at one of the three $1 9/6
DDB progressive machines in the video poker area and immediately started to
rack up the quads. She hit fives a couple of times then kings and queens,
and kept calling over to me to announce her latest hit as her credits
skyrocketed. I was having a miserable time of it, so I finally gave up, pulled up
a chair next to her and rooted her on. Then, all hell broke loose.
She got deuces with a kicker for $800, threes with a kicker (dealt!) for
another $800 then got DEALT aces. Unfortunately, she didn't get a kicker
dealt with them and missed on the draw, but another $800 was added to her
bankroll. At this point, we figured we had something special going with this
machine so we decided to double-team it.
Well, after two separate sessions playing this machine for a total of
about seven hours, we hit 25 quads, including aces three times (alas, none with
a kicker!), deuces, threes twice and fours, all with kickers. Hedy also had
three other dealt quads besides the threes and aces.
During one amazing stretch, we hit quad kings five times in a row!
We finally cashed out a ticket for $4,700 without benefit of a handpay.
This was truly a "machine on drugs" as our friend Judie Mac used to say, and
it was one of the most enjoyable video poker rides Hedy and I have ever
taken!
The next day, we tried the same machine but, predictably, all was not
coming up roses for the second straight day. A couple of thousand went back as
we tried various games and machines but Hedy was determined to keep trying
the "miracle machine." The progressive was just under $4,300 when she fed a
couple of benjies into it and started to play. Nothing special was
happening for awhile but then she got quad 10's and a small wave of optimism came
over us. Then, about 10 minutes later, she was dealt the Q-A-10-K of clubs.
Mike Sea, our friend from AC, was playing at an adjacent machine and the
three of us held our breath and leaned over the machine as Hedy held the four
royal cards and slowly hit the draw button. BINGO!! Jack of clubs!! We
must have screamed pretty loudly because a crowd formed pretty quickly and we
couldn't believe that this same machine that was so hot on Sunday had just
given us a $4,298 progressive royal on Monday!
After the appropriate celebration, we stopped playing and later hooked up
with Mike and Alicia for a wonderful dinner at Gordon Biersch.
It was a trip to remember, for a number of reasons, but mostly we will
never forget the "machine on drugs!"
Regards,
CoachVee & Hedy
