No more RV dry-camping in Laughlin, Mesquite

Clark County recently notified several Laughlin casinos (Harrah's,
River Palms, Ramada Express, etc.) that they were in violation of an
ordinance that bans RV dry-camping. As a result, RVs have been
evicted from most (all?) Laughlin casino parking lots unless you are a
registered hotel guest.

Many RV'ers have moved to AVI (12 miles south) where the tribal casino
(not subject to anyone else's rules) quickly opened additional
dry-camping lots.

Riverside casino has the only RV park in Laughlin; otherwise, plan to
stay at AVI or at one of the RV parks across the river in Bullhead
City, AZ.

Bottom line: don't plan on dry-camping in Laughlin.

I've heard the same ordinance is now being enforced in Mesquite (also
in Clark County) too.

It looks like anyone trying to live in aluminum housing has been
under attack. Mobile home parks in Clark county are being sold off.
The county is trying to do something about this. Here is a short news
bit from Murphy Broadcasting:

"An 18-month ban on mobile home park conversions to temporarily
protect manufactured housing as an affordable option was introduced
to the county commission earlier this month.
Clark County Commission Vice-Chair Myrna Williams says 10 mobile home
parks closed in the Las Vegas valley in 2005 alone, and at least
seven more are expected to close in 2006. She explained the community
is losing a valuable source of affordable housing and the impact of
increasing land prices is affecting mobile home residents at local
and state levels.
This moratorium, which also affects Laughlin, Searchlight and Cal-Nev-
Ari, will give the county time to manage development in the area. A
public hearing on this proposal will be set for February."
