No LV hotels for March 17?

That Thursday is the first day of the NCAA Basketball tournament. Many
years ago a group that I worked with would go to LV for the Thursday thru
Sunday of that week.

What is happening in LV on March 17? I know it is St Patrick's Day,
but there must be more to the story. I had no problem getting a room
up to or after the 17th, that's why it seems so weird. Thanks to
anyone who can tell me what is going on!

It is actually also because of a construction conference,
the CONEXPO-CON/AGG - Estimated attendees: 135,000, 3/15-3/19.
The LV Hilton (ever VIP services) said they were "sold out."
For high rollers they do have some rooms held back.
