Nickel and Dime Workover

I go to Vegas from two to four times a year. Not only are there extra
charges for phones that you don't necessarily use but many of the
hotels are now adding charges for energy and in-room safes. I expect
to spend (and probably lose) my dollars in their casinos but now I am
getting a "nickel and dime" workover by their hotels -- and often
with NO CHOICE. It seems so incongruous to comp rooms for hundreds
and charge 99 cents for a phone! Are things really that desparate?

Nicel and dime workover by the hotel; cutbacks on poker machines in
the casino; comp skimping; what's next or is this simply on-going
Vegas?

Maybe I am missing something - but it seems to me really ridiculous
that people who are going to Vegas getting free rooms (or even
reduced rates) and sometimes even getting free meals are complaining
about a .99 charge for phone service or a $3.00 energy charge...Yet
they have no problem dropping a few hundred dollars in slot
machines...
Have I missed something ?

Players earn their comps based on the theoretical loss of their
play ... and they are considered guests of the casino. In that
light, it's rude to ask them to pay for small charges associated with
their stay.

It's kind of like you (casino) inviting some guests (players) over
for a dinner that they will help prepare. Then you ask them to pay
to use your plates and silver-ware. Just not right.

What you missed is the fact that it is the little things that drive people crazy.
We don't mind tipping a waiter $20 on a $100 tab for a comped meal, but watch us go nuts if they try to throw in the tax for $6.50.
I will tip my hosts, the front desk staff, the maids and everyone else, but I will use a payphone before I use the room phone if it is going to cost me a buck for a local call.
Why, because it is those little things that drive me nuts.
Have you ever driven a block because the Gas was 1 cent cheaper per gallon?
Have you ever kicked yourself because you forgot to use a coupon that would have saved you 50 cents.
Have you ever called your credit card company because they charged you $1 interest on a payment that was posted 1 day late.

I could go on but you get my drift.
