When I was in Reno, I collected my monthly, bi-monthly, and weekly
welfare checks and placed the funds into my ongoing R&D budget (about
$15K to $20K a year). I spent a good amount of time looking into a
good tip at Harrah's reward program (this DOES NOT involved the
affinity credit card) and also spent time looking over the new gift
catalog -- the Macy or Visa gift card yields a comp rate of .05% or 5
basis points. Note, the comp rate is higher with multiple point days.
On the surface, Harrah's has full pay VP at $1 and higher so to become
a Diamond member requires $100K in action based on $10 per point and
at a expected loss of about $500. Becoming a Diamond member is
automatic once the 10,000 points are earned, and the benefits of being
a Diamond member are quite good. I also discover it possible to
become a Diamond member in as little as one day. Lastly, this back
door was quite an eye-opener since one can always redeem 200,000
points into $1,000 cash on certain days of the year.
Good luck.
