True. What's more, if you DO ask, they are required to report it to the
IRS that you DID ask. I suspect few if any casinos obey this "identify
who wants to know" regulation, but technically they're required to do
so.

On the other hand, one is not required to provide any information at all if
the transaction is over $3,000 but less than $10,000. I have refused to give
them this information on numerous (every) occasion that this has happened.
