Mostly agree with post by twowild4 on 5/24 but have received offers from
Silver Legacy of $180 free play & wife received $100 free play + $75 dining
for her birthday. What's notable is that it seems that most of the pullback
has occurred in northern NV rather than in LV where most of the pros are
concentrated. Probably the only way for casinos to restore free play is to go to
system where ID must be shown in order to combat those who have others get
their free play when using PIN #.
An observation on a recent trip to Reno/Tahoe
This comment is about a stop in Jackson Rancheria (CA) which we made on the
way back home. The casino is going through major renovations & when we went
inside for a brief stop, there were more people in there than we had seen
in Reno/Tahoe for all of Memorial Day weekend. Even though business was
generally considered good for the weekend for Reno/Tahoe, the talk with the
bartenders was gloomy as the old timers see business inexorably draining away
with no way to reverse the trend of Indian casinos taking more & more market
share. It's sad. There was a time when I would have loved moving to Reno but,
even with cheap housing prices, I think Reno (& Las Vegas) is going to lag
the rest of the economy by a few years.

Of course other casinos have the same problem with free play but they've
been reluctant to pull the trigger because of competition. That may be
changing. Silver Legacy also threw in the towel ... no more free play (unless you
want to convert comps). So this trend may now spread locally.
