Okay, Miss Linda, I just read that article. Thanks for the reference.

You're referring to a different article--understandable because I have two articles in this month's issue of Midwest Gaming & Travel. Your original question --versions of Jacks or Better--was answered in the "Name Game" article. (Page 36 of the magazine.)
You can read it online, if you don't have the magazine:

Question: Is it fair to compare the return on an hours's play of FPDW
on a quarter machine with that of an hour's play on a 10/7 DB
on a $5 machine? And conclude that DB with an ER of 100.17 is more
profitable than FPDW with an ER of 100.76?
The article you're referring to is called "Play Smart, Bet Right"--it's actually an excerpt from my book, The Video Poker Edge. (Pages 22-25 of the MWGT magazine.)

To address this question, I was explaining the difference between the terms Expected Return (ER)--a percentage--and Expected Value (EV)--an amount of money--using examples.
Specifically, I was demonstrating with real numbers that the ER may be higher--like FPDW with an ER of 100.76% compared to 10/7 DB with an ER of 100.17%--even though the EV is lower--comparing a quarter version of FPDW with a $5 version of 10/7DB. For the example, I used 1 hour as the time interval and a playing rate of 700 hands per hour.

This may be the accepted way of looking at things in the Video Poker
universe, but it doesn't sound right.
The purpose of the examples was to make sure the terms were understood--not to advocate ER over EV or vise versa.
Be aware that games with high ERs, like FPDW, are mostly available in lower denominations--games like 10/7DB may be found in higher denominations. The choice best for individual players depends on several factors--one of those is budget limitations.
Your questions/comments are good ones! Linda
