It's short pay usually. Check out the wizard of odds to see the paybacks for some of the versions.

Gotta watch out for those new GameMaker HD machines when you're playing Pick 'Em. The one "hold" button is the same as the "bet max" button.
Just a related note, on a bank of the MGMD machines at Gold Dust West, they have them set for the usual short pay in the .05 and .10 denomination (10000/1200/600/90/75/50/20/15/10) but change it to a very non-standard Pick 'Em paytable for .25 and $1 (10000/1200/600/100/75/60/20/15/10). Still short, but not quite as short.
But the question would be, why play those machines at all when there are full pay machines 15 feet away.
