Boys and girls, don't miss this excellent book, written by one of
our own!
I've taken a good look through the book as well. My copy was waiting
upon my arrival home from vacation ... I pre-ordered it from Amazon
March 6, 2005. (That's right, it's been a year + anticipation
It's the most approachable introductory video poker text I've
encountered and I'm thoroughly impressed by its breadth. The book is
chock full of wisdom and insight into play acumen critical to a
successful and satisfying vp experience. Sweetening the package are
appealing layout, typesetting, and organization that create a very
attractive and inviting volume.
While I call it "introductory", don't dismiss "the Edge" as only for
the uninitiated. More experienced players will find it has the
potential to fill in background gaps that otherwise would leave one
without a full appreciation of the subject.
Advanced players will be fascinated by the very inviting and
interesting manner in which the broad range of subjects are addressed.
(And will likely find a refreshing in the odd tidbit here and there.)
Personally, as someone who oftens strives to explain basic and more
advanced vp concepts to others, I find her demonstrated expertise
more than a little awesome.
My greatest concern was that, like many gambling books, the book might
drone on about the obvious and be anything but stimulating. However,
it's a bright and crisp read that's a pleasure to dip into. Obviously
a seasoned player will be well versed in much of the content.
However, even when covering familar ground, Linda tackles the material
in a direct and concise manner that makes for an intriguing and
compelling read.
For well seasoned players it's hardly an essential library addition.
But I've found a pleasure in the book that makes it worth more than
its modest cost. Too few books on the subject make for the very
strong reading of this one.
I look to stocking up on a few copies. I can't think of a better
resource to pass along to those we know who are looking for a starting
point in grasping what "this" is all about and, perhaps, may consider
taking a break from the reels to invest in the initial education
necessary to push into vp play with confidence.
