New to the group

Hi All,

David here, just found the group. I'm totally new to VP. (Had to do
something, the years of small but steady blackjack losses were messing
with my head)

I generally play at Argosy, and from reading the posts here, I see that
my hunch was right that none of their paytables are good.

What would you all suggest a beginning player in KC do. I've had
slightly better luck at Harrah's. Maybe I should go to Ameristar? Are
there still decent paytables for JoB?

Any suggestions from the veteran players would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks-
David

You are right, Argosy sucks.
Harrahs is definitely better with Pickem. On good promotion days,
like 5X CB or 10X rewards, that is an excellent play, especially if
you're a dollar plus player. Comps will normally be virtually non-
existent as you don't receive bonus rewards on Pickem anymore.
Isle of Capri has quarter Pickem as well as full pay All American.
AA is a great game to play, but is much more complicated and has a
higher variance. It is, however, the only game in town that produces
a positive expectation if played properly before cashback or comps.
Apparently Ameristar also has Pickem. I haven't been there in ages,
but if they give cashback of .25% AND comps of .31%, wow! If that's
accurate, I might need to get over there and pay. Can anyone verify
that? And can you use that for Bryant's BBQ over there? If yes,
that's a deal!

Ameristar does have $.25 and $1 Pick'em and cashback is .25%. You
get comps in addition to that. They currently have double point days
on Thursdays, making cashback .50%. They occasionally have triple
point days.

Ameristar is very generous with cash back, comps, and coupons and, yes, you can use comps for Bryant's BBQ (and any other eatery in the place). They have full pay JoB, Bonus, NSUD, and Pick'Em.

My advice for a new VP player is to get a copy of WinPoker or Frugal VP and practice. Jacks or Better is probably the best game to start with and there are a few full pay JoB machines around KC.

Good luck,

Rick

Your advice is right on the money. Re: Ameristar comps and cash, the
numbers listed are how you can use your points to either turn them in
for real cash OR turn them in for a comp at a resturant, and they are
correct at .25% cash, and .31% comp. I am not sure at what level
'discretionary comps' kick in, but depending on your play you can also
get these comps in addition to your cash back points. I have never
used my points for a comp here in stl, I cash the points and eat on
discretionary comps, Ameristar St. Charles treats us very well,
unfortunately they have crap for games and I havent been there much
since there have been better games at other places (like KC)
Re: where comps are good, as far as I know thier comps are good at
any of thier food outlets.
