New to Forum: Anyone play at Lake Charles?

Hi LL,

We live in Houston and play in Lake Charles--mostly at the Isle.

Thank you for publishing news of the downgrade and saving us a trip. It
is beyond comprehension. Since the Isle has nothing else to offer--no clean
new rooms, no good restaurants, no golf--you would think they might try to
compete with L'Auberge via their pay tables. Alas, no. We thought they
were crazy when they reduced the number of good machines a while back and we
stopped going as often. I got tired of running through $80K in one day
and having to beg for a dinner comp to Faradays.

This latest fiasco sounds like part of the current backlash against VP
players. I swear these slot managers have never played VP, don't understand
the math even a little bit and seem determined to lower pay tables to the
level of slot machines. This strategy may not hurt them all that much in
Lake Charles b/c MOST of the players there really don't have a clue. The rest
of us will stay away in droves.

I understand the Isle in Blackhawk, Colorado recently took out all their
playable games so it must be a corporate decision. Blackhawk is actually a
fairly nice property compared to Lake Charles. However, the Ameristar
recently opened a newer nicer hotel tower in Blackhawk. Instead of
competiting w/ good games (the only thing they could excel at), they decided to go
head to head w/ mediocre games. Any idiot would rather play at Ameristar w/
better rooms, food and a POOL!!! Go figure.

It is a sad state of affairs for us VP players these days.

Thanks again for the heads up.

Well that's the breaks! I don't play there but have seen cut backs in Shreveport as well. I guess it is getting bad all over! JA

Robar,
So do you now play at Lauberge? The $VP there is at least 99% return although their comps are lower than Isle. You are right though the Director of Slots at Isle told us when he first came that he didn't play VP and that VP kept him from making a profit on the slots. You would think he would understand he can't compete facilities wise with LDL but it doesn't seem to matter. We heard from a tech he discussed lowering the VP tables so he could use the difference to bring in two newer multi-player slot machines. Tehc said he was removing the casino stage on the third floor to make room. Sure enough stage was gone this week!
