New Sign on Highway for Twin Rivers Casino

Saw a ""Twin Rivers "Casino"" Brown (Point of Interst) Sign on the
Interstate Beltway (I295?) that goes around Providence - Southbound at
Route 146 exit.
Ever notice the Foxwoods and Mohegan Interstate Signs point folks to
the Indian Reservations and don't mention casinos?
Federal Highway Engineers probably don't want anything to do with
advertising casinos - so they figured out a compromise.

Not so with the Twin Rivers sign. Besides no reservation for a
compromise. I suspect the sign was put up by Rhode Island Dept of
Transportation. Maybe they got Fed approval and maybe not. Should be
interesting to see what is worked out because the joint definetly needs
better highway signing.

Another intersting highway factoid is the new very large rest
area/visitors center Rhode Island just opened on the Providence beltway
northbound. Its got a dunkin donuts and a State Trooper's office. Its a
beautiful looking building and a good place for long haul (truckers et
al) to catch some shut eye. Nothing like State Troopers to keep the
peace.
The strange thing, in my opinion, is it seems to be more of a Visitors
Center for Massachusetts. I'd say less than 10 minutes before you are
in Massachusetts. I suppose tourists could be given maps pointing them
to Twin Rivers if nothing else. Your highway taxes at work.

Cops & donuts at the same stop? Now that's what I call highway
engineering.
