experience in the Clark County Detention Center was, if anything,
understated. I had an experience similar to his, except the
filthy "tank" where I spent 42 hours AFTER POSTING FULL CASH BAIL was
occupied by 29 inmates at one point. The treatment by and attitudes of
the guards ranged from indifference to casual brutality.
THe guards pretended to "lose" the $3000+ cash that I had on me when I
was taken in, when I attempted to use that cash to post bail. It was
only after I became extremely upset and pointed out that I had PROOF
that I had had that cash on me when arrested (I won't give the
details, for fear of retaliation by the LVMPD at some unspecified
point in the future), that my cash was MAGICALLY "found".
They also tried to forcibly give me medication for high blood
pressure, based on the "advice" of some EMT/nurse who wasn't even a
doctor. In "punishment" for my adamant refusal to take this medication
(which could very well have killed me), I was roughed up by two guards
and slammed back into my seat.
They eventually released me, but only onto the street at 3 AM after
two days sitting in that filthy, overcrowded little room. I heard from
one of the other inmates that since the jail gets paid by the state
$100/day for every inmate, and the "day" begins at midnight, they will
keep you past then no matter what, and past two midnights if at all
possible.
The phones don't actually work, and the food is utterly inedible. It's
a miserable experience that anyone who is thinking of WINNING in a

This isn't meant to be trite, but sheer curiousity brings this
question: what does this have to do with video poker? An article
about a faulty slot machine somehow relates to someone allegedly being
jailed for playing blackjack. Both are XVP.
But in keeping with the theme of this Group I.E. video poker: has
anyone ever been arrested and put in jail for playing video poker? Or
perhaps know someone? Hmm. Why do I think the answer is no.

Actually, I think the answer is "yes". In fact, I KNOW the answer
is "yes"...because it happened twice to me, and once at least to two
acquaintances of mine.
In one of my "incidents", I happened to hit seven sets of deuces in

never recovered the $400, though.

Hey, you know what they say, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, you
didn't think they were just gonna let you leave town with your
winnings now, did ya? Vegas may be the worse since the entire city is
dependant on fleecing gamblers, oops, I mean "providing the full

I stand corrected. Now this is why I like to come to vpFREE; to hear
real stories, not some bickering over books and strategy cards. So
in your example, I have to assume you were just playing; hit some
quads; then out of nowhere, suits or goons showed up.
"Beaten" is rather general. Injured to the point of needing medical
attention? Once you were released, did you take any legal action?
Have you ever been back to the casino where the incident occured?

Most folks can't imagine how things work untill they have to face a
situation themselves. It's a great teacher as it's one on one
instruction. Or... should I say, it's one against the government.
With unlimited resources the government can be a brutal teacher.
Grosjean's thoughts of pleading out at a lesser charge, even though
he was innocent, is a very real problem. Lucky for him he didn't
have to make a decision. I wonder if he sued? There might be a good
reason why he may not have filed something. My feelings; innocent or
guilty, going to jury trial is a 50 - 50 shot and should be avoided
at all costs. Some say, if innocent, "it's the principle of the
thing". However, principles don't make you any money or keep you out
of jail.
Cheers...Jeep

I, for one, REALLY APPRECIATE all the links that are posted on this forum. Anything that will give me information about Vegas and general casino subjects helps me add value to my VP play. If anyone doesn't like this type of information, perhaps belonging to this group is a mistake for them.
In one of my books - I've slept since I wrote them and can't remember which one - I said something about the fact that VP is not an island, but just one small country surrounded by many others that influence that small one. We play almost entirely negative VP games. The only reason that we continue to show a profit is because of our relentless use of slot club benefits, promotions, etc. And the reason we have been able to build our bankroll to the size it is now, enough to play at quite high-level denominations, is that we grasped every opportunity in casinos and casino towns to be frugal, including rarely using valet parking, and if we did, we certainly didn't tip $5 unless there was special service for us!

Proving Jean's "frugality," I asked her to mail me something (which she very
kindly did!) and the envelope she used was hotel stationary!!

I think it is a good time to mention that we have a really good
group here. I know we all agree. Lots of good information and a lot
of great folks posting here. Sometime a flame might break out but it
usually a minor thing and no one really attacks anyone. We should
congradulate ourselves. I enjoy my visits here and I think the owner
of the site deserves a pat on the back too.
GOOD JOB!!
Cheers..Jeep
P.S. On that $5 tip thing; I leave the Bentley home when I go to
the casino. The valet would think I was a piker if I only tipped a
buck.

Jean,
I was responding to Charle's post in which he questioned why
messages about faulty slot machines and being jailed for playing
blackjack were being posted to this group.I was being sarcastic (like, what difference does it make if it's
VP-related or not?). Apparently, it did not come across that way.Jean, I apreciate all of the posts, too - whether they relate to VP
or not. Because, I pick and choose which posts to actually read,
based on their subject lines. There are many times when I will
delete a message without reading it because the subject does not
interest me.BTW, I totally agree with you. Five bucks is too much to tip for
just bring a car to you.Curtis

There are lots of good things that can be said about vpFREE, but "no one
really attacks anyone" is not one of them.
