Just a brief summary - Harrah's offered free air, transfers and hotel for
New Orleans for myself and a companion so I took them up on it. First time I've
ever done New Orleans and am definitely planning to go back, just didn't have
enough time to see everything. My friend Karen came with me - first win was
arriving in New Orleans and finding out that the rest of our group of 15 are
7 Stars, so we had limos for transportation to the hotel (I'm diamond and
Karen is gold, so we cashed in on their status). Room was beautiful on a high
floor with view of the casino and river. Played in a slot tournament and did so
bad that if they were giving prizes for being at the bottom I'm sure I would
have won:) Place was full as it was the weekend of the Jazz Fest, we were
offered tickets and transportation but we didn't take advantage of that as we
wanted to see the Quarter and had limited time. Did a carriage tour, spent
two days walking around the Quarter, did some shopping, lots of eating at
wonderful places - Napoleon House, Mother's, Coop's, Cafe du Monde - screwed up by
not reserving dinner places way ahead of time and found ourselves having to
resort to Harrah's choices for dinner - Gordon Biersch one night (very good,
even if a chain) and the buffet (adequate, but not great). Gambling was very
good - I hit two royals and four Aces with a kicker, so I came home with more
than I left with. Nice paytables for VP players - $1 9/6 JoB, .25 DDB at 9/6
with 3 play machines and single line....don't know about anything higher as
I pretty much just played these. Casino was absolutely frigid - they really
crank up the air conditioning. People were wonderful and kept thanking us for
coming - just a really fun trip. Only negative for us was that the trip left
out of Boston, so we spent the previous night in Revere.
Went to the Sun yesterday to use my gift card, gambling was definitely not
as rewarding this trip - spent 4 hours playing at the bar and walked away with
a small loss.
