New member with VP questions

I am going to Las Vegas for the first time in 20 years at the end
February.Have only played video poker a the local Indian casinos here
in Michigan.(they suck). I have a few questions if anyone can address
them I would greatly appreciate it.

Bought Bob Dancer's WinPoker 6.0 four days ago based on reading alot
of positive comments about it. Questions:

1. Does it "mimic" what you will actually experience in Vegas? Or
does anyone feel that it is programmed to give you a "winning"
experience. Reason I ask...I CAN'T LOOSE....I play JOB and Double
Bonus Deuces Wild: If I play for about a 1/2 an hour, I'm up 40 to
50 coins.....I quit (PRACTICING to leave as a winner) Then I come
back..if I play longer then 30 to 40 minutes, I'm taking out
a "loan". I also had the following hand last night: ace, king, jack
ten of diamonds with the queen of hearts. perfect play said to hold
the diamonds (althought I had already won 25 coins for the straight)
and try to draw the queen of diamonds..so I went for it! Yeh...my
first Royal Flush! Is the software progammed to make you feel
good...do the right thing and you"ll be rewarded?

2. Could someone post the "order" of the best machines to play as far
as payback percentage?

3. If I am only visiting Las Vegas once, is it worth the money to
join Skip Hughes Top 40? I realize it's not expensive, but is it
worth it for a one time trip? Mostly interested in where the best vp
play might be for the week of the Feb 24? Not interested in comps.

4. Any suggestions for a one-time visitor on what, where, how to
play?

Play long enough and you will have a losing session. I guarantee it.
While it may or may not exactly replicate exactly how a real VP
machine will play, I am not aware of any feature of Winpoker that
gooses your expected return.

Visit the vpfree links... cross directory and Las Vegas database for
good information. Deuces Wild and Double Bonus are the most common
positive expectation games but most Strip casinos will not have them
in their full pay versions.

Value is relative to the individual but probably not.

4. Any suggestions for a one-time visitor on what, where, how to
play?

Again, see the database for favorite casinos. Barbary Coast would be
a good choice if you're staying on the Strip. Good luck!

1. The software does mimic reality. In real play you can have good streaks where you feel invincible , and bad streaks where you feel cursed by the almighty.

2. The top machines that are readily available are full pay deuces wild and full pay Jokers wild . To try and learn more would be difficult for a first time outing.

3. No, it has more value if you are going to be a serious player with multiple trips.

4. If you only care about good VP and aren't worried about comps, you can check the database for an extensive list if where all the good games are, but if I wanted to go to a Casino and only cared about having good VP the Palms would be high on my list and the Fiesta Rancho would be right there also.

Barb-

   I'll give my two cents:
   Someone who is more computer literate (or knows Dean Zamzow better) than I should answer how Win Poker works. For some unknown reason, I seem to have better overall results on Win Poker than in the casinos. Part of that may be due to my sometimes playing on the "warn" feature where I can correct my mistakes, which obviously can't be done in a casino. What I can say is my casino results have been much better since I got Win Poker than before I got it.
   BUT - I played Win Poker for more than 85,000 hands before hitting my first royal on it.
   If this is your first trip to Vegas in more than 20 years, you won't recognize the place. A lot of landmarks are gone, and new places built. I suggest you take at least one day to play tourist and walk the Strip, gawk at the NYNY skyline, the Luxor pyramid, the Paris' Eiffel tower, and the luxurious decor of the Bellagio and Venetian. (I heartily recommend lunch in the Bellagio buffet for a variety of gourmet foods. It's even worth paying for.) Don't forget a trip to Fremont Street to enjoy the lights. If you rent a car, take a drive out into the desert. (Red Rock canyon is real nice.) It sure beats the scenery in Michigan (and yes, I spent a summer there).
   As to where you play, that's your choice. I would avoid playing on the Strip, except for NYNY and Barbary Coast, which both have limited full-pay VP. You may want to concentrate your play in one casino so you get everything comped, or spread your action around to see what you get in the mail. Some Vegas places are very generous with free-room mail offers, even if you play only a couple hours. Be sure to sign up for all the slot clubs.
   I'll leave the rest to the locals.

PS - Instead of playing the crappy Indian casinos in Michigan, you may want to cross the border to Casino Windsor. Or save your money and practice on Win Poker for your trips to Vegas.

The game with the best return with the lowest volatility is full pay deuces
wild. The strategy is one of the easier
ones to learn and play well. Practice it on Winpoker and get a strategy card
to take to Las Vegas. FPDW and
easy room comps can be found at the Gold Coast on Flamingo Ave. The Palms
is located across the street
and has virtually every full pay game available. Winpoker is "real" but you
won't always win. VP is a very volatile
and streaky game. You will have many winning and losing streaks over the
years. Information on the good game locations, cashback, points etc. can
be found on Tom's web pages. Besides the Gold Coast, you can find full pay
deuces at the Orleans, Barbary Coast on the strip, Plaza downtown, MSS
downtown, Palms and all the "Stations" properties except Palace. Skip's
group is probably more cost effective for frequent players rather than for
one time vistors.
