A friend of mine is working there as a Housekeeping Manager
and is very excited about the Hotel.

From the sounds of it, they want to run it like a business,
make friends, and put on a great show, where their guests
have a blast and feel special.

I wonder how long that lasts?

Seriously, this girl says the whole team is a lot of fun,
and the place is beautiful and everyone is great to
work with at this place.

I am definetely going to check their VP pay tables
when I got to Las Vegas next time!

I sincerely hope the opening goes better than when I stayed at ARIA the very first night about a year ago. An eternal wait to check in(and VIP checkin, at that), then checked in, unpacked and had to repack when the non-smoking room turned out to be just the opposite. No paperwork inside the room service menu, (hey, no problem, just have the operator go through the menu item by item). No ice at all in any of the ice machines. A malfunctioning fire alarm which either trapped you on your room's floor, in the casino, or somewhere in between with the non-stop accompanying wail of the siren. No curfew on that siren, either.

But I would have gladly forgiven all these glitches if the VP had been even halfway decent. Instead, MGM-Mirage (avoiding any attempt to even halfway lure anyone less than a "baby whale") made $5 the cutoff point for anything full-pay. I stayed my two nights, made a very small profit clinging mostly to the safety of $5 9/6 Jacks and have absolutely no desire to ever return.

Cosmo, are you listening???

*if the casino is as edgy as the tv commercial for it, it should be worth a
visit.

Paul an interesting way of describing it. Mary and I along with other friends found it confusing.
What the hell do all those kittens, and puppies emerging from the elevator have to do with anything ?

Anyway, I'll be interested to read the VP reports on this board. With all these hotels in the City Center somethings got to give.

*my take on the commercial is just that this is not your grandma's casino;
expect-the-unexpected type thing. it would be great if it lived up to that,
unlike aria which, to me, is a boring dark cave (with, of course, unplayable
vp to boot).

I'm behind. Sue me.

... I stayed at ARIA the very first night about a year ago.

I can understand a nonsmoker's objection to a smoking room because of
the lingering odor of the smoke. But you say this was the first night
they were open. There's no odor if nobody has ever actually smoked in
the room. Do you object to the mere concept of a smoking room, so
much so that you'd go to the trouble of moving rooms?

If I were not a smoker, I would complain & expect some sort of comp. Especially, if they are new, it should be exactly as you paid for. However, I admit to smoking in non smoking rooms however, with a window open or in the bathroom or kitchen with an exhaust fan & use smoke spray *that takes away smoke odors*. This has been when it was the only suite available.
The Cosmo is nothing short of Amazing and I couldn't imagine them not complying to a customers needs & going over board to address complaints as they are so new & do not want bad media. However, if people don't speak up when they find themselves in a position such as this, they cannot do what needs to be done.

They had a trial run/dress rehearsal going for 30 days ish
before the official opening.

Some guest that was there pre-opening probably smoked
in it, or who knows?

as someone who is allergic to smoke, i would request a room change if
i found out i had a smoking room, even if it didn't smell and i knew
for a fact that it had never been smoked in. i expect that the air
circulation is much more likely to bring smoke into my room from the
hallway or other rooms if i'm on a smoking floor than if i'm on a
nonsmoking floor. i've had this problem before.

maybe this isn't actually the case - i am hardly an expert on air
circulation systems in large hotels - but it doesn't seem like an
irrational concern.

cheers,

five
