Argosy opened their new land based casino today thus ending the era of
riverboats in Kansas City. Theirs was the last "floater" in this area
and now it gone. The new facilities are quite impressive; based on a
Mediterranean theme it is Las Vegas strip quality. They have gone from
the smallest casino to the second largest in KC, besting Harrah's by a
couple hundred square feet. It looked like all the slot/VP machines
were new and they are 100% TITO. Seemed strange to walk around a
casino and not see any coin buckets anywhere.
Now to the Video Poker. It sucks!!! We didn't see a single full pay
machine in the casino. I didn't realize the Pick-Em's were short pay
until I had been playing one for 20 minutes and finally hit 3 of a
kind which only paid 20 for five instead of 25. The straight is also
short pay at 50 instead of 55. These are 96.69% machines, and that's
the good news. Most of the rest were worse. The best machine I found
was one called "four play". It is basically an 8/6 Bonus Deluxe but
pays 400 for a straight flush. Winpoker puts this game at 98.83%. I
believe that is the best game in the building, however, due to the
crowd I was not able to check out each and every machine. As Carlos
mentioned earlier, there were a lot of oddball games like "one-eyed
jacks", etc.
Argosy didn't get much of our business before due to poor comps and
cashback; now we will do all our playing elsewhere.

As best I can tell, it's all short-to-very-short pay except for a
bank of 12
quarter Game Makers with Pick'em. I only got to check the menu on
one of
the GM's. It did not have AA. I will come back this Saturday
morning when
it's not so crowded and check as many of the others as I can.
All the rest of the VP machines out on the floor were Game Kings,
except for
3 (?!) nickel 20-coin Multi-Strikes off in a little cubby hole.
They were
in use, so I couldn't check the pay scales.
On the Game Kings, I saw several games I'm not familier with. One Eyed
Jacks and a lot of bonus games with the word "Super" in the title (Super
Bonus, Super Double Bonus, Super Double Double Bonus, etc.) The
idea for
most of them seemed to be that 4-of-a-kind face cards paid 400
instead of
the usual 250. I will write down the exact pay scales and try to
enter them
into Frugal or WP6 to get the payouts.
Of the "traditional" games, JOB was 7/5, DB and DDB were 9/6 or 9/5. I
couldn't get near the bar to see what the games were.
Take this as a "preliminary" report, but the only FPVP at the new Argosy
appears to be 12 machines with PE. That sucks. No AA means my level of
play will drop to nearly zero at the new casino. This Saturday,
I'll make a
