New Jean Scott Frugal Fridays Column
Well, a small part of the (latest) remodeling is finished. The new bar
(called "Twist") up on the 2nd level is completed.
Yes, there are VP machines built into the bar. One side features the usual
multi-game multi-denomination machines, with the best game being DDB 9/6
(98.98%). The other side of the bar features machines with Big Split Poker.
Stay away from these. They have Jacks or Better and Deuces Wild, but the
pay scales are in the 95%-96.5% range. Yikes. If you want to see a
description of Big Split Poker (which is a pretty fun game, by the way) Bob
Dancer's review can be found on IGTProducts.com. Do yourself a favor and
play the "full pay" version for free on the web site. I've played it a few
times and made money every time. Fake money, but what the heck.
There's good news for all you high rollers who don't mind playing for 10
minutes, then waiting two hours, playing for 10 minutes, then waiting two
hours. In the high limit area on the 1st level, there are now five $5
machines with JOB 9/6 progressive. The bad news is that the jackpot was only
up to $22K this evening. Given Missouri's dumbass
$500-loss-limit-every-two-hours law, it will take an eon for them to get up
to the 100% payout point.
Sooo...Harrah's KC now has full pay AA, full pay PE, 99% DDB and 9/6 JOB
regular and progressive. Furthermore, the multi-point days are getting more
frequent (5x every Monday and Tuesday this month). If it weren't for the
company logo stuck on everything, you'd hardly believe you were in a
Harrah's.

The meter is pretty fast on these. They've been in place for a few
months and the RF was 29K back a few months back on a visit I made.
The 2 oversized $ Gamemakers that were by the now-extinct lower level

I agree. This is one of the nicest Harrahs in the country. The
rooms are very nice, the food is good (relative to the typical
Harrahs), and the VP is excellent. Depending on the dealer, their DD
BJ game is playable. Top this off with their Hold'em Room, which is
always well stocked with guppies. Overall a fine casino, one that I
visit regularly, even though it's 220 miles from my door (and Harrahs
STL is only 12). What is so bizarre is that the same GM, Bill Keena,
runs both properties. The 2 could not be more different in terms of
VP, BJ and food & beverage. Typical Harrahs - you'll never figure
them out!
